Magnetic pin - a small grip with strong holding power
A magnetic pin is a cone-shaped housing with an N38-grade neodymium magnet fitted inside. The tapered tip gives fingers something to grab - you peel a sheet off in one motion, without scraping a nail on a flat surface, a common annoyance with thin office magnets. The wide base doubles as the contact surface against the steel backing - the larger it is, the firmer the hold at the same magnetic strength. N38 is a mid-range grade, but combined with this shape it holds plenty: a single pin keeps up to 20 sheets of A4 paper in place on a board. They only work on a ferromagnetic surface - the magnet will not stick to wood, glass or plain plastic without a metal backing underneath.
Four sizes, eight colours - picking the right one
The difference between 11x17 mm and 29x38 mm comes down to the magnet's volume and the contact area against the steel surface. A larger pin has a sturdier base, so it holds more firmly and survives an accidental knock better - useful on a busy corkboard in a shared office. The smaller 11x17 mm size suits situations where discretion matters, holding thin sheets on a fridge door without covering the content underneath. The mid-range 12x20 mm and 20x25 mm sizes are the practical default for noticeboards where sheets go up and down daily. Colour is functional, not just decorative: black, white, red, blue, green, purple and orange let you colour-code a planning board by task status. The black set is a ready-made single-colour bundle, with no picking pieces one by one.
Where magnetic pins earn their keep
The natural home for these pins is whiteboards and cork-and-steel boards in offices - anywhere a schedule or a printed sheet needs to go up and come down quickly.
