Certificates and own measurements

Catalogue holding force, measured holding force and the conditions behind every figure

This page collects the parameters we confirm by our own measurement, together with the conditions of that measurement. We do not repeat the core manufacturer's catalogue data here — that sits on the product pages. This is what we measured ourselves, and what we have not measured yet.

Catalogue holding force versus real holding force

Catalogue holding force is measured under ideal conditions: on a steel plate thicker than the reach of the magnet's field, ground flat, with zero air gap and a perpendicular, slowly increasing pull. Such a value is repeatable and comparable between manufacturers — and almost never occurs at an actual workstation.

In practice the plate is often thinner than the field reaches, so part of the flux passes through and does not contribute to attraction. Paint, zinc coating, rust or dust create an air gap, and the force falls with it faster than linearly. An uneven surface gives point contact instead of full contact. Shear force — parallel to the surface — is many times lower than perpendicular pull.

This is why a holding force quoted without its measurement conditions is not information. On this page every figure is accompanied by the conditions it came from: plate grade and thickness, air gap and direction of pull.

This page grows together with the measurements. We publish only what we measured ourselves, so it grows slowly — we would rather show three figures with stated conditions than thirty copied from a catalogue.

Magnetic holders

Threaded, conical, hook and through-hole holders. The catalogue value comes from the core manufacturer, the measured one from our own test rig.

Measurements for this family are in preparation. The table shows which parameters we confirm by our own measurement; figures enter it one at a time, as each measurement is completed.

Magnetic separators

Rollers, beams, grates and grippers. For separators what matters is flux density at the working surface, not holding force — that is what decides whether a particle is captured.

Magnet fishing holders

F-series holders. Catalogue holding force is quoted for a perpendicular pull; in water the force usually acts at an angle and the real value is lower.

DHIT's own measurements, taken on our in-house rig. They do not replace accredited testing and are not a calibration certificate. We publish them so that product selection rests on a figure with stated conditions rather than on a catalogue value without context.
