Frequently asked questions

How strong a magnet do I need for magnet fishing?
Our search magnets are rated between 32 kg and 680 kg of pull force. The rating is measured as a straight, perpendicular pull on thick, clean steel — in a river you almost never pull that way, so treat it as a figure for comparing models rather than a promise. For a first magnet, mid-range models around 300 kg are easier to handle than the heaviest ones, which are simply hard to lift once they grab a submerged object.
What rope and shackle should I pair with the magnet?
Match the whole chain, not just the magnet. Our ø10 mm rope is rated at 1592 kg and the M10 shackle at 320 kg, so with a 310 kg magnet the shackle is the limiting part. Whatever you buy, check the rating of every component separately and take the lowest one as the rating of the set. The knot at the eye is usually weaker than the rope itself.
What is the difference between a single-sided and a double-sided fishing magnet?
A single-sided magnet holds on one face only, so it has to land the right way round. A double-sided one grabs from either face, which matters when you throw it into moving water and cannot control how it lands. The trade-off is weight and price for the same nominal pull force — the F200 GOLD DUAL, for instance, is rated at 601 kg against 310 kg for the single-sided F200 GOLD.
Does the pull force rating apply underwater?
Water itself is not the problem — it is not magnetic and barely changes the force. What changes it is everything else: silt and rust between the magnet and the find, a curved or thin surface instead of a flat plate, and a pull that comes at an angle rather than straight off. Expect a fraction of the catalogue figure in real conditions, and choose the mounting point and coating with that in mind.

Don't be fooled by amateur online tests – go for certified quality and specific parameters that guarantee success:

  • 📏 Magnet thickness in the casing (min. 10mm) – This is what matters most! Thin magnets are weak. Thanks to the 1cm thickness of N52 neodymium, your magnet "sees" metal even through thick rust and mud.
  • 🛡️ Armored protection (Black Epoxy) – Forget about rust. This coating doesn't chip when hitting rocks and protects the magnet in water much better than regular nickel, which fails quickly.
  • 🧲 Eyelets that don't steal power – Made of special non-magnetic steel, so they don't stick to the magnet and don't block the force. Important: mount only one eyelet at a time! Using 3 at once is a mistake that weakens the magnet.
  • 🧶 Certified rope (min. 8mm) – You gain the certainty that your gear won't stay at the bottom. It's thick and comfortable, so it doesn't cut your fingers when pulling out heavy scrap metal.
  • 🚀 Our advantage: We are the only ones combining the strongest N52 neodymium (10mm thick) with non-magnetic eyelets. This is real power and durability you won't find anywhere else.

Invest in solid equipment and enjoy the results!

For underwater searches, we recommend specialized holders from the GOLD series, designed for working in difficult conditions. Model UMP 75x25 [M10x3] GW F200 PLATINIUM Lina / N52 offers an optimal weight-to-pull force ratio, which is important for repeated throwing. For beginners, we recommend lighter single-sided models (F80-F200), for advanced users - heavier double-sided (Two-Side) ones.
Double-sided holders (Two-Side) have two active magnetic surfaces and two mounting holes. Top mounting works well when fishing from a bridge, pier, or well (vertical technique). The double-sided version increases search efficiency by 100%.
Our holders have a thick steel housing covered with an anti-corrosion layer (chrome, nickel, zinc). Avoid throwing the magnet against bridge pillars or hard obstacles. After each fishing trip, we recommend rinsing the magnet with fresh water and drying it.
We offer both standalone holders and ready-made gift sets (depending on the selected option in the store). A full set usually contains: magnet, polypropylene rope with appropriate strength, protective gloves, hook, and carabiner. Using thread glue is crucial to not lose the magnet in silt.
This force applies to perfect adherence with the entire surface to a smooth, clean steel plate with a min. thickness of 20mm. In a river, objects are often rusty, silted, or irregular in shape (e.g., pipes), which drastically reduces grip strength. Therefore, to pull objects weighing 10kg from the water, a magnet with a capacity of 200-300kg is often needed.
Searches are allowed as long as you do not interfere with archaeological sites or search for weapons. We recommend familiarizing yourself with current local regulations and heritage protection laws.
It is the best value because for the identical price, you buy a premium mount that will last for many seasons than budget alternatives.
The unique way of mounting the magnet in the protective cup creates a solid structure that absorbs impacts while working on difficult, rocky bottoms.
You should know that the identical magnet used by the lateral point can actually show only a fraction of strength instead of the declared 200 kg. Crucially, in the entire internet, it is hard to find videos testing the real side-pull force of competitor products on the lateral attachment.
{By choosing Dhit, you bet on a local market leader that perfectly understands the specifics of our waters. Don't risk it with random brands, stick with the market leader that ensures the satisfaction of searcher.

Strengths as well as weaknesses of neodymium magnets.

Benefits

Besides their stability, neodymium magnets are valued for these benefits:
  • They retain magnetic properties for almost 10 years – the drop is just ~1% (according to analyses),
  • They maintain their magnetic properties even under external field action,
  • In other words, due to the metallic surface of nickel, the element looks attractive,
  • They show high magnetic induction at the operating surface, which improves attraction properties,
  • Thanks to resistance to high temperature, they are able to function (depending on the form) even at temperatures up to 230°C and higher...
  • Possibility of accurate machining and optimizing to precise applications,
  • Versatile presence in innovative solutions – they are commonly used in HDD drives, brushless drives, medical devices, also other advanced devices.
  • Relatively small size with high pulling force – neodymium magnets offer strong magnetic field in tiny dimensions, which allows their use in small systems

Cons

Disadvantages of NdFeB magnets:
  • They are fragile upon heavy impacts. To avoid cracks, it is worth securing magnets in special housings. Such protection not only protects the magnet but also increases its resistance to damage
  • We warn that neodymium magnets can reduce their strength at high temperatures. To prevent this, we suggest our specialized [AH] magnets, which work effectively even at 230°C.
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore when using outdoors, we recommend using water-impermeable magnets made of rubber, plastic or other material resistant to moisture
  • Limited possibility of making nuts in the magnet and complex forms - recommended is cover - mounting mechanism.
  • Potential hazard related to microscopic parts of magnets pose a threat, when accidentally swallowed, which is particularly important in the aspect of protecting the youngest. Additionally, small elements of these products are able to disrupt the diagnostic process medical in case of swallowing.
  • Due to neodymium price, their price is relatively high,

Holding force characteristics

Breakaway strength of the magnet in ideal conditionswhat it depends on?

The load parameter shown refers to the limit force, recorded under ideal test conditions, meaning:
  • using a base made of high-permeability steel, acting as a ideal flux conductor
  • with a thickness no less than 10 mm
  • with an ground touching surface
  • with direct contact (no paint)
  • during detachment in a direction vertical to the plane
  • at standard ambient temperature

Practical aspects of lifting capacity – factors

During everyday use, the actual holding force is determined by a number of factors, listed from most significant:
  • Distance – the presence of foreign body (paint, dirt, air) interrupts the magnetic circuit, which reduces capacity steeply (even by 50% at 0.5 mm).
  • Force direction – declared lifting capacity refers to detachment vertically. When slipping, the magnet holds significantly lower power (often approx. 20-30% of nominal force).
  • Substrate thickness – for full efficiency, the steel must be sufficiently thick. Thin sheet restricts the lifting capacity (the magnet "punches through" it).
  • Chemical composition of the base – low-carbon steel gives the best results. Higher carbon content reduce magnetic properties and holding force.
  • Surface finish – ideal contact is possible only on polished steel. Any scratches and bumps create air cushions, reducing force.
  • Heat – neodymium magnets have a negative temperature coefficient. When it is hot they lose power, and in frost gain strength (up to a certain limit).

Lifting capacity was measured using a steel plate with a smooth surface of suitable thickness (min. 20 mm), under vertically applied force, in contrast under parallel forces the holding force is lower. Moreover, even a small distance between the magnet’s surface and the plate reduces the holding force.

Precautions when working with neodymium magnets
Hand protection

Watch your fingers. Two large magnets will snap together instantly with a force of massive weight, destroying everything in their path. Exercise extreme caution!

Nickel allergy

Medical facts indicate that the nickel plating (the usual finish) is a strong allergen. If your skin reacts to metals, refrain from touching magnets with bare hands and select versions in plastic housing.

No play value

Neodymium magnets are not suitable for play. Eating a few magnets can lead to them pinching intestinal walls, which poses a direct threat to life and necessitates immediate surgery.

Warning for heart patients

Life threat: Neodymium magnets can turn off pacemakers and defibrillators. Do not approach if you have electronic implants.

Immense force

Before starting, read the rules. Uncontrolled attraction can destroy the magnet or injure your hand. Think ahead.

Data carriers

Device Safety: Neodymium magnets can damage data carriers and delicate electronics (heart implants, hearing aids, timepieces).

Machining danger

Dust produced during grinding of magnets is self-igniting. Do not drill into magnets without proper cooling and knowledge.

Fragile material

Despite the nickel coating, neodymium is delicate and cannot withstand shocks. Avoid impacts, as the magnet may crumble into sharp, dangerous pieces.

Compass and GPS

Navigation devices and mobile phones are extremely sensitive to magnetism. Direct contact with a strong magnet can decalibrate the sensors in your phone.

Demagnetization risk

Do not overheat. Neodymium magnets are sensitive to heat. If you require resistance above 80°C, look for special high-temperature series (H, SH, UH).
