Frequently asked questions

Which rod should I choose for fine contamination?
For particles below 0.5 mm — a Ø32 mm rod in grade N52, with surface induction of about 10,000 Gs. A Ø25 rod in grade N42 gives about 6,500 Gs and is chosen for contamination above 1 mm: bolts, washers, pieces of wire.
Which rod pitch should I choose?
The narrow pitch, 40 mm centre to centre, for fine free-flowing fractions — it gives denser coverage of the cross-section. The wide pitch, 50 mm, for granulates and for damp, greasy or sticky materials, where a narrow pitch risks the material bridging above the rods.
Why does efficiency drop after a few weeks of operation?
Almost always because the separator has not been cleaned. The layer of captured particles shields the field, and further particles settle on that layer rather than on the rod surface, where the gradient is far stronger. The magnets themselves do not weaken at that rate.

This separator is tasked with cleaning the product (coal, aggregate, recycling) from steel contaminants. It can also be mounted in a gravity channel down which raw material falls. Ensures high quality of the final product in plastic recycling, wood, and the food industry.
Ferrite is cheaper and has deeper field penetration, which is good with a thick layer of raw material. They work well in initial separation in recycling and mining. Neodymium separators have an extremely strong surface field, but shallower (shorter range). The decision should be made based on the type of separated material and cleanliness requirements.
The construction is tightly welded from acid-resistant sheet, which guarantees tightness. This ensures full resistance to corrosion, water, and difficult weather conditions. Suitable for chemical, food, and pharmaceutical industries.
Cleaning a plate separator (static) is done manually. Periodically wipe the working surface with a cloth or slide collected metal to the side. To facilitate, a cleaning overlay (dump drawer) can be used, which we offer as an option.
As a manufacturer, we fulfill individual orders for specific conveyor belt widths. We adjust length, width, and mounting hole arrangement (eyes, threads). Contact us to receive a free quote and technical drawing.

Advantages and disadvantages of Nd2Fe14B magnets.

Pros

Apart from their superior power, neodymium magnets have these key benefits:
  • They virtually do not lose strength, because even after 10 years the decline in efficiency is only ~1% (according to literature),
  • Neodymium magnets remain extremely resistant to magnetic field loss caused by external interference,
  • A magnet with a smooth silver surface is more attractive,
  • They show high magnetic induction at the operating surface, which affects their effectiveness,
  • Due to their durability and thermal resistance, neodymium magnets are capable of operate (depending on the form) even at high temperatures reaching 230°C or more...
  • Thanks to the ability of accurate molding and customization to unique solutions, neodymium magnets can be produced in a variety of forms and dimensions, which expands the range of possible applications,
  • Significant place in modern technologies – they are commonly used in mass storage devices, drive modules, diagnostic systems, as well as modern systems.
  • Thanks to efficiency per cm³, small magnets offer high operating force, in miniature format,

Limitations

Disadvantages of NdFeB magnets:
  • To avoid cracks under impact, we recommend using special steel holders. Such a solution protects the magnet and simultaneously increases its durability.
  • Neodymium magnets lose their strength under the influence of heating. As soon as 80°C is exceeded, many of them start losing their power. Therefore, we recommend our special magnets marked [AH], which maintain stability even at temperatures up to 230°C
  • Due to the susceptibility of magnets to corrosion in a humid environment, we advise using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic or other material stable to moisture, when using outdoors
  • Due to limitations in realizing nuts and complex forms in magnets, we propose using cover - magnetic mount.
  • Health risk to health – tiny shards of magnets can be dangerous, if swallowed, which becomes key in the context of child health protection. It is also worth noting that small components of these products are able to complicate diagnosis medical in case of swallowing.
  • Due to neodymium price, their price is relatively high,

Lifting parameters

Maximum holding power of the magnet – what affects it?

Holding force of 0.00 kg is a theoretical maximum value performed under the following configuration:
  • using a sheet made of low-carbon steel, serving as a magnetic yoke
  • whose transverse dimension equals approx. 10 mm
  • with an ground touching surface
  • without the slightest clearance between the magnet and steel
  • during pulling in a direction vertical to the plane
  • in temp. approx. 20°C

Determinants of practical lifting force of a magnet

Please note that the application force will differ subject to elements below, in order of importance:
  • Gap between magnet and steel – even a fraction of a millimeter of separation (caused e.g. by varnish or unevenness) diminishes the magnet efficiency, often by half at just 0.5 mm.
  • Force direction – catalog parameter refers to detachment vertically. When applying parallel force, the magnet holds significantly lower power (typically approx. 20-30% of nominal force).
  • Element thickness – to utilize 100% power, the steel must be adequately massive. Thin sheet restricts the attraction force (the magnet "punches through" it).
  • Steel grade – the best choice is pure iron steel. Cast iron may have worse magnetic properties.
  • Surface finish – ideal contact is possible only on smooth steel. Rough texture reduce the real contact area, reducing force.
  • Temperature influence – high temperature reduces pulling force. Too high temperature can permanently damage the magnet.

Lifting capacity testing was performed on plates with a smooth surface of optimal thickness, under a perpendicular pulling force, however under shearing force the holding force is lower. Moreover, even a small distance between the magnet and the plate reduces the load capacity.

Safe handling of neodymium magnets
Danger to the youngest

Product intended for adults. Tiny parts pose a choking risk, causing intestinal necrosis. Store away from children and animals.

Do not underestimate power

Use magnets with awareness. Their huge power can shock even professionals. Plan your moves and respect their force.

Implant safety

Individuals with a heart stimulator should keep an safe separation from magnets. The magnetic field can interfere with the operation of the life-saving device.

Power loss in heat

Control the heat. Exposing the magnet to high heat will destroy its properties and strength.

Dust is flammable

Fire hazard: Rare earth powder is explosive. Avoid machining magnets in home conditions as this may cause fire.

Fragile material

Watch out for shards. Magnets can fracture upon uncontrolled impact, launching sharp fragments into the air. We recommend safety glasses.

Safe distance

Avoid bringing magnets close to a purse, computer, or screen. The magnetic field can permanently damage these devices and erase data from cards.

Allergy Warning

Some people experience a sensitization to Ni, which is the standard coating for NdFeB magnets. Frequent touching can result in skin redness. We suggest wear protective gloves.

GPS Danger

Navigation devices and mobile phones are extremely sensitive to magnetism. Close proximity with a powerful NdFeB magnet can ruin the sensors in your phone.

Finger safety

Watch your fingers. Two large magnets will snap together instantly with a force of massive weight, crushing anything in their path. Exercise extreme caution!
