Frequently asked questions

Which rod should I choose for fine contamination?
For particles below 0.5 mm — a Ø32 mm rod in grade N52, with surface induction of about 10,000 Gs. A Ø25 rod in grade N42 gives about 6,500 Gs and is chosen for contamination above 1 mm: bolts, washers, pieces of wire.
Which rod pitch should I choose?
The narrow pitch, 40 mm centre to centre, for fine free-flowing fractions — it gives denser coverage of the cross-section. The wide pitch, 50 mm, for granulates and for damp, greasy or sticky materials, where a narrow pitch risks the material bridging above the rods.
Why does efficiency drop after a few weeks of operation?
Almost always because the separator has not been cleaned. The layer of captured particles shields the field, and further particles settle on that layer rather than on the rod surface, where the gradient is far stronger. The magnets themselves do not weaken at that rate.

Magnetic Induction

Other offers

This separator is tasked with cleaning the product (coal, aggregate, recycling) from steel contaminants. The most common installation place is suspension over the transport belt crosswise or lengthwise. The main goal is to protect crushing machines from destruction and ensure product purity.
Ferrite separators are characterized by a deep, penetrating magnetic field. We recommend them for protecting machines against large, heavy scrap (so-called tramp iron). Neodymium separators have an extremely strong surface field, but shallower (shorter range). The choice depends on the size of contaminants and the thickness of the raw material layer on the belt.
We make our magnetic beams entirely of acid-resistant steel AISI 304 or 316 (on request). This ensures full resistance to corrosion, water, and difficult weather conditions. Suitable for chemical, food, and pharmaceutical industries.
Removing contaminants is simple but requires periodic stopping of the process or access to the magnet. Periodically wipe the working surface with a cloth or slide collected metal to the side. Optionally, we offer systems facilitating cleaning (Extra Clean), which speed up maintenance.
As a manufacturer, we fulfill individual orders for specific conveyor belt widths. We design separators according to the orderer's requirements, taking into account material specifics. Send us dimensions of your conveyor belt and type of raw material, and we will select the appropriate solution.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets.

Advantages

Besides their durability, neodymium magnets are valued for these benefits:
  • They do not lose power, even during nearly 10 years – the reduction in power is only ~1% (based on measurements),
  • They retain their magnetic properties even under close interference source,
  • In other words, due to the metallic surface of gold, the element gains a professional look,
  • They are known for high magnetic induction at the operating surface, making them more effective,
  • Thanks to resistance to high temperature, they are capable of working (depending on the form) even at temperatures up to 230°C and higher...
  • Thanks to the ability of free forming and customization to specialized projects, magnetic components can be modeled in a broad palette of forms and dimensions, which amplifies use scope,
  • Key role in advanced technology sectors – they find application in data components, drive modules, precision medical tools, also industrial machines.
  • Thanks to concentrated force, small magnets offer high operating force, with minimal size,

Cons

Disadvantages of NdFeB magnets:
  • They are prone to damage upon heavy impacts. To avoid cracks, it is worth protecting magnets in a protective case. Such protection not only protects the magnet but also improves its resistance to damage
  • Neodymium magnets demagnetize when exposed to high temperatures. After reaching 80°C, many of them experience permanent drop of power (a factor is the shape as well as dimensions of the magnet). We offer magnets specially adapted to work at temperatures up to 230°C marked [AH], which are very resistant to heat
  • Due to the susceptibility of magnets to corrosion in a humid environment, we suggest using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic or other material immune to moisture, when using outdoors
  • Limited ability of making threads in the magnet and complicated shapes - preferred is a housing - mounting mechanism.
  • Possible danger resulting from small fragments of magnets are risky, when accidentally swallowed, which gains importance in the context of child health protection. It is also worth noting that tiny parts of these devices are able to complicate diagnosis medical after entering the body.
  • Due to neodymium price, their price is higher than average,

Holding force characteristics

Maximum magnetic pulling forcewhat affects it?

The force parameter is a result of laboratory testing performed under standard conditions:
  • using a sheet made of low-carbon steel, functioning as a magnetic yoke
  • possessing a thickness of at least 10 mm to ensure full flux closure
  • characterized by smoothness
  • under conditions of ideal adhesion (surface-to-surface)
  • for force acting at a right angle (in the magnet axis)
  • in stable room temperature

What influences lifting capacity in practice

Bear in mind that the working load may be lower influenced by elements below, starting with the most relevant:
  • Space between magnet and steel – every millimeter of distance (caused e.g. by varnish or unevenness) diminishes the pulling force, often by half at just 0.5 mm.
  • Force direction – remember that the magnet holds strongest perpendicularly. Under shear forces, the holding force drops drastically, often to levels of 20-30% of the maximum value.
  • Metal thickness – thin material does not allow full use of the magnet. Magnetic flux penetrates through instead of converting into lifting capacity.
  • Steel grade – ideal substrate is pure iron steel. Hardened steels may have worse magnetic properties.
  • Surface finish – ideal contact is obtained only on smooth steel. Rough texture create air cushions, reducing force.
  • Thermal environment – heating the magnet causes a temporary drop of force. It is worth remembering the maximum operating temperature for a given model.

Holding force was checked on the plate surface of 20 mm thickness, when a perpendicular force was applied, however under attempts to slide the magnet the holding force is lower. Moreover, even a slight gap between the magnet and the plate reduces the holding force.

H&S for magnets
Serious injuries

Big blocks can crush fingers instantly. Never place your hand betwixt two strong magnets.

Keep away from electronics

Note: neodymium magnets generate a field that interferes with sensitive sensors. Keep a safe distance from your phone, device, and navigation systems.

Avoid contact if allergic

It is widely known that nickel (standard magnet coating) is a common allergen. If you have an allergy, avoid touching magnets with bare hands or choose encased magnets.

Flammability

Dust produced during grinding of magnets is flammable. Avoid drilling into magnets without proper cooling and knowledge.

Eye protection

Despite metallic appearance, neodymium is brittle and cannot withstand shocks. Avoid impacts, as the magnet may shatter into sharp, dangerous pieces.

Heat warning

Control the heat. Exposing the magnet above 80 degrees Celsius will destroy its properties and pulling force.

Cards and drives

Device Safety: Neodymium magnets can ruin payment cards and sensitive devices (pacemakers, medical aids, timepieces).

Life threat

Warning for patients: Strong magnetic fields affect medical devices. Keep at least 30 cm distance or ask another person to work with the magnets.

Do not give to children

These products are not suitable for play. Accidental ingestion of several magnets may result in them pinching intestinal walls, which poses a critical condition and requires urgent medical intervention.

Powerful field

Exercise caution. Rare earth magnets act from a distance and snap with huge force, often faster than you can react.
