Frequently asked questions

Which rod should I choose for fine contamination?
For particles below 0.5 mm — a Ø32 mm rod in grade N52, with surface induction of about 10,000 Gs. A Ø25 rod in grade N42 gives about 6,500 Gs and is chosen for contamination above 1 mm: bolts, washers, pieces of wire.
Which rod pitch should I choose?
The narrow pitch, 40 mm centre to centre, for fine free-flowing fractions — it gives denser coverage of the cross-section. The wide pitch, 50 mm, for granulates and for damp, greasy or sticky materials, where a narrow pitch risks the material bridging above the rods.
Why does efficiency drop after a few weeks of operation?
Almost always because the separator has not been cleaned. The layer of captured particles shields the field, and further particles settle on that layer rather than on the rod surface, where the gradient is far stronger. The magnets themselves do not weaken at that rate.

Magnet pull force

Magnetic Field

View also offers

It is a device used to catch unwanted metals from bulk raw materials transported on a belt. The most common installation place is suspension over the transport belt crosswise or lengthwise. Protects mills, crushers, and shredders from falling screws, excavator teeth, or hammers.
Ferrite is cheaper and has deeper field penetration, which is good with a thick layer of raw material. We recommend them for protecting machines against large, heavy scrap (so-called tramp iron). Neodymium separators have an extremely strong surface field, but shallower (shorter range). The decision should be made based on the type of separated material and cleanliness requirements.
The separator housing is high-quality stainless steel, welded by TIG method. Thanks to this, the device is waterproof, dustproof, and very durable. Suitable for chemical, food, and pharmaceutical industries.
It is a device operated manually by an operator. Scrap is removed by mechanically moving it to the edge, where the magnetic field is weaker. Cleaning frequency depends on the amount of contaminants in the product - the more metal, the more often you need to clean.
As a manufacturer, we fulfill individual orders for specific conveyor belt widths. Dimensions and mounting system are agreed with the client at the design stage. Send us dimensions of your conveyor belt and type of raw material, and we will select the appropriate solution.

Strengths as well as weaknesses of neodymium magnets.

Advantages

Besides their immense strength, neodymium magnets offer the following advantages:
  • They retain attractive force for around 10 years – the drop is just ~1% (according to analyses),
  • They maintain their magnetic properties even under close interference source,
  • In other words, due to the aesthetic finish of nickel, the element looks attractive,
  • Magnetic induction on the top side of the magnet is strong,
  • Thanks to resistance to high temperature, they can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures up to 230°C and higher...
  • Possibility of custom machining as well as modifying to complex applications,
  • Huge importance in future technologies – they serve a role in HDD drives, electromotive mechanisms, precision medical tools, also modern systems.
  • Thanks to their power density, small magnets offer high operating force, in miniature format,

Disadvantages

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:
  • To avoid cracks upon strong impacts, we recommend using special steel housings. Such a solution secures the magnet and simultaneously increases its durability.
  • We warn that neodymium magnets can lose their strength at high temperatures. To prevent this, we recommend our specialized [AH] magnets, which work effectively even at 230°C.
  • They oxidize in a humid environment. For use outdoors we advise using waterproof magnets e.g. in rubber, plastic
  • Due to limitations in realizing nuts and complex forms in magnets, we propose using a housing - magnetic mechanism.
  • Health risk to health – tiny shards of magnets can be dangerous, when accidentally swallowed, which becomes key in the context of child safety. Additionally, small elements of these products are able to be problematic in diagnostics medical in case of swallowing.
  • High unit price – neodymium magnets are more expensive than other types of magnets (e.g. ferrite), which hinders application in large quantities

Holding force characteristics

Maximum lifting force for a neodymium magnet – what contributes to it?

The declared magnet strength refers to the maximum value, measured under laboratory conditions, specifically:
  • with the use of a sheet made of low-carbon steel, ensuring full magnetic saturation
  • whose transverse dimension reaches at least 10 mm
  • characterized by smoothness
  • without the slightest air gap between the magnet and steel
  • during pulling in a direction vertical to the plane
  • at temperature approx. 20 degrees Celsius

What influences lifting capacity in practice

During everyday use, the actual lifting capacity is determined by several key aspects, ranked from most significant:
  • Gap (between the magnet and the plate), since even a tiny distance (e.g. 0.5 mm) can cause a drastic drop in force by up to 50% (this also applies to varnish, rust or dirt).
  • Force direction – declared lifting capacity refers to pulling vertically. When slipping, the magnet holds much less (often approx. 20-30% of maximum force).
  • Element thickness – to utilize 100% power, the steel must be adequately massive. Paper-thin metal limits the attraction force (the magnet "punches through" it).
  • Steel type – mild steel gives the best results. Alloy steels decrease magnetic permeability and holding force.
  • Surface finish – ideal contact is possible only on polished steel. Rough texture create air cushions, weakening the magnet.
  • Heat – NdFeB sinters have a negative temperature coefficient. At higher temperatures they are weaker, and in frost gain strength (up to a certain limit).

Lifting capacity testing was carried out on plates with a smooth surface of optimal thickness, under perpendicular forces, however under attempts to slide the magnet the holding force is lower. Additionally, even a small distance between the magnet’s surface and the plate decreases the holding force.

H&S for magnets
Physical harm

Pinching hazard: The attraction force is so immense that it can cause hematomas, pinching, and broken bones. Use thick gloves.

Choking Hazard

Only for adults. Tiny parts can be swallowed, causing intestinal necrosis. Store away from children and animals.

Respect the power

Before starting, check safety instructions. Sudden snapping can destroy the magnet or injure your hand. Be predictive.

Material brittleness

Despite the nickel coating, the material is brittle and not impact-resistant. Avoid impacts, as the magnet may crumble into sharp, dangerous pieces.

Fire risk

Dust produced during grinding of magnets is combustible. Do not drill into magnets without proper cooling and knowledge.

Metal Allergy

Studies show that the nickel plating (standard magnet coating) is a common allergen. For allergy sufferers, refrain from direct skin contact or opt for versions in plastic housing.

Precision electronics

Navigation devices and smartphones are highly sensitive to magnetic fields. Close proximity with a powerful NdFeB magnet can permanently damage the sensors in your phone.

Life threat

Patients with a heart stimulator must keep an large gap from magnets. The magnetism can stop the operation of the life-saving device.

Maximum temperature

Monitor thermal conditions. Heating the magnet above 80 degrees Celsius will destroy its magnetic structure and strength.

Protect data

Intense magnetic fields can destroy records on payment cards, hard drives, and other magnetic media. Maintain a gap of at least 10 cm.
