Which rod should I choose for fine contamination?
For particles below 0.5 mm — a Ø32 mm rod in grade N52, with surface induction of about 10,000 Gs. A Ø25 rod in grade N42 gives about 6,500 Gs and is chosen for contamination above 1 mm: bolts, washers, pieces of wire.
Which rod pitch should I choose?
The narrow pitch, 40 mm centre to centre, for fine free-flowing fractions — it gives denser coverage of the cross-section. The wide pitch, 50 mm, for granulates and for damp, greasy or sticky materials, where a narrow pitch risks the material bridging above the rods.
Why does efficiency drop after a few weeks of operation?
Almost always because the separator has not been cleaned. The layer of captured particles shields the field, and further particles settle on that layer rather than on the rod surface, where the gradient is far stronger. The magnets themselves do not weaken at that rate.

It is a device used to catch unwanted metals from bulk raw materials transported on a belt. The most common installation place is suspension over the transport belt crosswise or lengthwise. Ensures high quality of the final product in plastic recycling, wood, and the food industry.
Ferrite separators are characterized by a deep, penetrating magnetic field. We recommend them for protecting machines against large, heavy scrap (so-called tramp iron). Neodymium versions are used for precise cleaning of raw material from small particles (food industry, plastics). The choice depends on the size of contaminants and the thickness of the raw material layer on the belt.
We make our magnetic beams entirely of acid-resistant steel AISI 304 or 316 (on request). This guarantees hygiene and ease of cleaning, which is crucial in the food industry. The product meets standards for the food industry (HACCP/IFS/BRC).
Cleaning a plate separator (static) is done manually. Periodically wipe the working surface with a cloth or slide collected metal to the side. Optionally, we offer systems facilitating cleaning (Extra Clean), which speed up maintenance.

Advantages as well as disadvantages of rare earth magnets.

Advantages

In addition to their magnetic efficiency, neodymium magnets provide the following advantages:
  • They retain magnetic properties for around 10 years – the drop is just ~1% (based on simulations),
  • They have excellent resistance to weakening of magnetic properties when exposed to external fields,

  • Significant place in future technologies – they find application in mass storage devices, electromotive mechanisms, diagnostic systems, as well as multitasking production systems.
  • Compactness – despite small sizes they provide effective action, making them ideal for precision applications

Disadvantages

Cons of neodymium magnets: weaknesses and usage proposals
  • Susceptibility to cracking is one of their disadvantages. Upon intense impact they can break. We recommend keeping them in a special holder, which not only protects them against impacts but also increases their durability
  • When exposed to high temperature, neodymium magnets experience a drop in force. Often, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, their power decreases (depending on the size, as well as shape of the magnet). For those who need magnets for extreme conditions, we offer [AH] versions withstanding up to 230°C
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can rust. Therefore while using outdoors, we suggest using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic or other material protecting against moisture
  • Due to limitations in realizing threads and complicated shapes in magnets, we propose using a housing - magnetic mechanism.
  • Possible danger to health – tiny shards of magnets pose a threat, in case of ingestion, which gains importance in the aspect of protecting the youngest. Additionally, tiny parts of these magnets are able to complicate diagnosis medical when they are in the body.

Holding force characteristics

Highest magnetic holding forcewhat affects it?

Holding force of 0.00 kg is a result of laboratory testing conducted under the following configuration:
  • with the contact of a yoke made of low-carbon steel, guaranteeing maximum field concentration
  • with a thickness no less than 10 mm
  • with a surface perfectly flat
  • under conditions of no distance (metal-to-metal)
  • under axial force direction (90-degree angle)
  • in stable room temperature

Key elements affecting lifting force

During everyday use, the actual holding force results from a number of factors, ranked from most significant:
  • Space between surfaces – every millimeter of separation (caused e.g. by varnish or dirt) significantly weakens the pulling force, often by half at just 0.5 mm.
  • Force direction – remember that the magnet has greatest strength perpendicularly. Under sliding down, the capacity drops significantly, often to levels of 20-30% of the nominal value.
  • Metal thickness – thin material does not allow full use of the magnet. Part of the magnetic field penetrates through instead of generating force.
  • Material composition – not every steel attracts identically. Alloy additives worsen the attraction effect.
  • Surface quality – the smoother and more polished the plate, the larger the contact zone and higher the lifting capacity. Roughness creates an air distance.
  • Heat – NdFeB sinters have a negative temperature coefficient. When it is hot they are weaker, and at low temperatures gain strength (up to a certain limit).

Lifting capacity was assessed with the use of a polished steel plate of suitable thickness (min. 20 mm), under perpendicular detachment force, in contrast under parallel forces the lifting capacity is smaller. Additionally, even a slight gap between the magnet and the plate reduces the holding force.

Beware of splinters

Neodymium magnets are ceramic materials, meaning they are very brittle. Collision of two magnets leads to them cracking into small pieces.

Allergic reactions

It is widely known that nickel (the usual finish) is a potent allergen. For allergy sufferers, refrain from direct skin contact and opt for encased magnets.

Pinching danger

Pinching hazard: The attraction force is so great that it can cause hematomas, pinching, and even bone fractures. Protective gloves are recommended.

Magnetic media

Do not bring magnets close to a wallet, computer, or TV. The magnetism can permanently damage these devices and wipe information from cards.

Maximum temperature

Control the heat. Heating the magnet to high heat will permanently weaken its magnetic structure and pulling force.

Conscious usage

Be careful. Neodymium magnets attract from a long distance and snap with huge force, often faster than you can react.

Danger to pacemakers

For implant holders: Strong magnetic fields affect electronics. Keep at least 30 cm distance or request help to work with the magnets.

Danger to the youngest

These products are not suitable for play. Accidental ingestion of several magnets can lead to them pinching intestinal walls, which constitutes a critical condition and requires immediate surgery.

Threat to navigation

A powerful magnetic field disrupts the functioning of compasses in phones and GPS navigation. Keep magnets close to a smartphone to avoid damaging the sensors.

Dust explosion hazard

Combustion risk: Rare earth powder is highly flammable. Do not process magnets in home conditions as this risks ignition.
