The steel housing plays a double role here: firstly, it protects the brittle neodymium magnet from mechanical damage upon impact (e.g., when closing doors). Secondly, it acts as a magnetic armature, directing the entire field to the front of the holder, which drastically increases the holding force. They are irreplaceable as invisible cabinet closures, door stops, or tool holders. When mounting, we recommend hand tightening so as not to damage the magnet with the force of a screwdriver.
