Frequently asked questions

How strong a magnet do I need for magnet fishing?
Our search magnets are rated between 32 kg and 680 kg of pull force. The rating is measured as a straight, perpendicular pull on thick, clean steel — in a river you almost never pull that way, so treat it as a figure for comparing models rather than a promise. For a first magnet, mid-range models around 300 kg are easier to handle than the heaviest ones, which are simply hard to lift once they grab a submerged object.
What rope and shackle should I pair with the magnet?
Match the whole chain, not just the magnet. Our ø10 mm rope is rated at 1592 kg and the M10 shackle at 320 kg, so with a 310 kg magnet the shackle is the limiting part. Whatever you buy, check the rating of every component separately and take the lowest one as the rating of the set. The knot at the eye is usually weaker than the rope itself.
What is the difference between a single-sided and a double-sided fishing magnet?
A single-sided magnet holds on one face only, so it has to land the right way round. A double-sided one grabs from either face, which matters when you throw it into moving water and cannot control how it lands. The trade-off is weight and price for the same nominal pull force — the F200 GOLD DUAL, for instance, is rated at 601 kg against 310 kg for the single-sided F200 GOLD.
Does the pull force rating apply underwater?
Water itself is not the problem — it is not magnetic and barely changes the force. What changes it is everything else: silt and rust between the magnet and the find, a curved or thin surface instead of a flat plate, and a pull that comes at an angle rather than straight off. Expect a fraction of the catalogue figure in real conditions, and choose the mounting point and coating with that in mind.

Don't be fooled by amateur online tests – go for certified quality and specific parameters that guarantee success:

  • 📏 Magnet thickness in the casing (min. 10mm) – This is what matters most! Thin magnets are weak. Thanks to the 1cm thickness of N52 neodymium, your magnet "sees" metal even through thick rust and mud.
  • 🛡️ Armored protection (Black Epoxy) – Forget about rust. This coating doesn't chip when hitting rocks and protects the magnet in water much better than regular nickel, which fails quickly.
  • 🧲 Eyelets that don't steal power – Made of special non-magnetic steel, so they don't stick to the magnet and don't block the force. Important: mount only one eyelet at a time! Using 3 at once is a mistake that weakens the magnet.
  • 🧶 Certified rope (min. 8mm) – You gain the certainty that your gear won't stay at the bottom. It's thick and comfortable, so it doesn't cut your fingers when pulling out heavy scrap metal.
  • 🚀 Our advantage: We are the only ones combining the strongest N52 neodymium (10mm thick) with non-magnetic eyelets. This is real power and durability you won't find anywhere else.

Invest in solid equipment and enjoy the results!

Other deals

For underwater searches, we recommend specialized holders from the GOLD series, designed for working in difficult conditions. This specific magnet ensures a laboratory lifting capacity of up to 180.00 kg, which translates into high effectiveness in water. The choice depends on whether you plan to throw from the shore (double-sided) or from a bridge (single-sided).
Double-sided holders (Two-Side) have two active magnetic surfaces and two mounting holes. Side mounting is ideal for throwing from the shore, as the magnet drags flat along the bottom. The double-sided version increases search efficiency by 100%.
The magnet is glued into a solid steel cup and sealed with epoxy resin, protecting it from water. The housing significantly increases lifespan but does not make the magnet completely indestructible. Maintenance (e.g., WD-40) prevents surface corrosion of the steel housing.
We offer both standalone holders and ready-made gift sets (depending on the selected option in the store). In the package, you will find everything needed: strong rope (e.g., 20m), gloves, and hardware. We recommend always securing the thread with glue or tightening the eyelet firmly before first use.
The capacity given in the name (e.g., 180.00 kg) is the maximum value measured in laboratory conditions. In a river, objects are often rusty, silted, or irregular in shape (e.g., pipes), which drastically reduces grip strength. Therefore, to pull objects weighing 10kg from the water, a magnet with a capacity of 200-300kg is often needed.
Searches are allowed as long as you do not interfere with archaeological sites or search for weapons. Magnet fishing is an eco-friendly hobby if you clean the river from trash and scrap.
It is the smartest investment because for the same money, you buy professional-grade equipment that will last for much longer than budget alternatives.
Consequently, despite the affordable cost, the lifespan of the GOLD mount positions it a step above other brands.
Many distributors use a trick by advertising the pull force measured exclusively on the vertical mount. Interestingly, in the entire internet, there are virtually no videos testing the real side-pull force of competitor products on the lateral attachment.
{By choosing GOLD mounts, you bet on a local market leader that knows the conditions of our waters. Don't risk it with unknown goods, stick with the market leader that ensures the satisfaction of searcher.

Strengths and weaknesses of rare earth magnets.

Strengths

Besides their stability, neodymium magnets are valued for these benefits:
  • They virtually do not lose strength, because even after 10 years the decline in efficiency is only ~1% (according to literature),
  • Magnets very well defend themselves against demagnetization caused by ambient magnetic noise,
  • The use of an refined coating of noble metals (nickel, gold, silver) causes the element to be more visually attractive,
  • The surface of neodymium magnets generates a powerful magnetic field – this is a distinguishing feature,
  • Neodymium magnets are characterized by extremely high magnetic induction on the magnet surface and can function (depending on the form) even at a temperature of 230°C or more...
  • Thanks to flexibility in shaping and the capacity to adapt to unusual requirements,
  • Wide application in high-tech industry – they serve a role in mass storage devices, electric motors, medical devices, and industrial machines.
  • Compactness – despite small sizes they offer powerful magnetic field, making them ideal for precision applications

Limitations

Problematic aspects of neodymium magnets: weaknesses and usage proposals
  • At very strong impacts they can crack, therefore we advise placing them in steel cases. A metal housing provides additional protection against damage and increases the magnet's durability.
  • Neodymium magnets demagnetize when exposed to high temperatures. After reaching 80°C, many of them experience permanent drop of power (a factor is the shape as well as dimensions of the magnet). We offer magnets specially adapted to work at temperatures up to 230°C marked [AH], which are very resistant to heat
  • When exposed to humidity, magnets start to rust. For applications outside, it is recommended to use protective magnets, such as magnets in rubber or plastics, which prevent oxidation and corrosion.
  • We recommend casing - magnetic holder, due to difficulties in producing nuts inside the magnet and complicated forms.
  • Possible danger resulting from small fragments of magnets pose a threat, in case of ingestion, which gains importance in the context of child safety. It is also worth noting that tiny parts of these products can complicate diagnosis medical after entering the body.
  • Higher cost of purchase is a significant factor to consider compared to ceramic magnets, especially in budget applications

Pull force analysis

Magnetic strength at its maximum – what affects it?

Holding force of 180.00 kg is a theoretical maximum value executed under specific, ideal conditions:
  • with the application of a sheet made of special test steel, guaranteeing maximum field concentration
  • with a cross-section of at least 10 mm
  • characterized by lack of roughness
  • under conditions of ideal adhesion (metal-to-metal)
  • during detachment in a direction vertical to the plane
  • at conditions approx. 20°C

Determinants of lifting force in real conditions

Bear in mind that the working load may be lower influenced by the following factors, in order of importance:
  • Distance (between the magnet and the plate), because even a very small clearance (e.g. 0.5 mm) results in a drastic drop in lifting capacity by up to 50% (this also applies to varnish, rust or dirt).
  • Loading method – catalog parameter refers to detachment vertically. When attempting to slide, the magnet holds much less (often approx. 20-30% of nominal force).
  • Element thickness – for full efficiency, the steel must be adequately massive. Thin sheet restricts the lifting capacity (the magnet "punches through" it).
  • Steel type – low-carbon steel attracts best. Higher carbon content lower magnetic properties and lifting capacity.
  • Surface finish – full contact is possible only on polished steel. Rough texture reduce the real contact area, weakening the magnet.
  • Thermal factor – high temperature weakens magnetic field. Too high temperature can permanently damage the magnet.

Lifting capacity testing was conducted on a smooth plate of suitable thickness, under a perpendicular pulling force, however under shearing force the holding force is lower. Moreover, even a small distance between the magnet and the plate decreases the holding force.

Safe handling of neodymium magnets
Do not drill into magnets

Drilling and cutting of neodymium magnets poses a fire hazard. Neodymium dust oxidizes rapidly with oxygen and is difficult to extinguish.

Threat to navigation

An intense magnetic field disrupts the operation of magnetometers in phones and GPS navigation. Do not bring magnets close to a device to avoid breaking the sensors.

Physical harm

Big blocks can crush fingers in a fraction of a second. Under no circumstances place your hand betwixt two strong magnets.

Caution required

Handle magnets consciously. Their huge power can shock even experienced users. Be vigilant and do not underestimate their force.

Sensitization to coating

Allergy Notice: The nickel-copper-nickel coating contains nickel. If skin irritation happens, immediately stop working with magnets and use protective gear.

ICD Warning

For implant holders: Powerful magnets disrupt medical devices. Keep minimum 30 cm distance or ask another person to handle the magnets.

This is not a toy

Adult use only. Tiny parts pose a choking risk, causing intestinal necrosis. Store away from kids and pets.

Protect data

Very strong magnetic fields can corrupt files on credit cards, hard drives, and storage devices. Stay away of at least 10 cm.

Thermal limits

Avoid heat. NdFeB magnets are sensitive to heat. If you require operation above 80°C, inquire about special high-temperature series (H, SH, UH).

Protective goggles

Protect your eyes. Magnets can fracture upon uncontrolled impact, launching sharp fragments into the air. Eye protection is mandatory.
