Magnetic separators for gravity chutes
Selecting a rod insert for a gravity-fed line
A magnetic rod insert can be mounted in a gravity chute so that material passes close to its working surface. Select the rod diameter, length, mounting and magnetic parameters from the available product cards. The catalogue includes several rod sizes and grades; the right configuration depends on the chute and material.
What matters in a gravity chute
Metal contaminants can travel with the bulk material and reach downstream equipment. Capture depends on the material path and the distance from the magnetic surface, not on a gauss figure alone.
Captured particles remain on the insert. Provide safe access for inspection and cleaning, and set the interval from the actual contamination load.
How to choose a rod insert
Check the chute and the flow. Record its cross-section, material, flow rate and available mounting space. Describe the contamination. Its material and particle size affect the choice, but a product card's surface flux does not by itself guarantee capture of a particular fraction.
Compare the diameter, length, thread and surface flux of the available rods. Ask DHIT about a custom configuration when a catalogue size does not fit.
Examples from the magnetic-rod catalogue
These are catalogue examples, not guaranteed separation thresholds:
| Catalogue example | Diameter | Grade and mounting | Surface flux |
|---|---|---|---|
| SM 18x100 | Ø18 mm | N42, 2xM5 | ~5,400 Gs |
| SM 25x100 | Ø25 mm | N42, 2xM8 | ~6,500 Gs |
| SM 25x225 | Ø25 mm | N52, 2xM8 | ~8,500 Gs |
| SM 32x100 | Ø32 mm | N52, 2xM8 | ~10,000 Gs |
The figures come from individual DHIT product cards. Flux is measured at the rod surface; performance in a chute also depends on distance, flow, contamination and maintenance. Check the current card before ordering.
Installation and maintenance
Mount the insert so the product passes near its working surface without blocking the chute. Check the actual thread and dimensions in the selected product card. A multi-rod arrangement needs a design review for flow and cleaning access.
Inspect the insert after commissioning and set a documented cleaning interval. Confirm the operating-temperature limit for the exact product; do not assume that every rod is suitable for a hot process.
