Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their power (of the magnet). After about 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are extremely resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic field,
  • By applying a shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They exhibit very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Thanks to their high temperature resistance, they can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • The ability for precise shaping and customization to specific needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in many variants of shapes or sizes, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Significant importance in the industry of new technologies – find application in hard drives, electric motors, medical apparatus and other modern machines.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are fragile when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • They lose power at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the shape and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • Due to their susceptibility to corrosion in a humid environment, we suggest using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials when using them outdoors,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Potential hazard associated with microscopic parts of magnets can be dangerous, in case of ingestion, which becomes significant in the aspect of protecting young children. Furthermore, miniscule components of these magnets can hinder the diagnostic process after entering the body.

Handle with Care: Neodymium Magnets

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Keep neodymium magnets away from TV, wallet, and computer HDD.

The strong magnetic field generated by neodymium magnets can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, etc. devices. They can also destroy devices like video players, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Remember not to place neodymium magnets close to these electronic devices.

Neodymium magnetic are highly susceptible to damage, leading to breaking.

Neodymium magnets are fragile as well as will break if allowed to collide with each other, even from a distance of a few centimeters. They are coated with a shiny nickel plating similar to steel, but they are not as hard. At the moment of connection between the magnets, tiny sharp metal pieces can be propelled in various directions at high speed. Eye protection is recommended.

Neodymium magnets should not be in the vicinity children.

Remember that neodymium magnets are not toys. Be cautious and make sure no child plays with them. They can be a significant choking hazard. If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls, causing significant injuries, and even death.

Neodymium magnets can attract to each other, pinch the skin, and cause significant swellings.

Magnets will crack or crumble with uncontrolled connecting to each other. Remember not to move them to each other or have them firmly in hands at a distance less than 10 cm.

Keep neodymium magnets away from people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets produce strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a heart pacemaker. However, if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the device when it is in a magnetic field.

Keep neodymium magnets as far away as possible from GPS and smartphones.

Magnetic fields can interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in aviation and maritime navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices. There are neodymium magnets in every smartphone, for example, in the microphone and speakers.

Avoid contact with neodymium magnets if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets ever invented. Their strength can shock you.

Make sure to review all the information we have provided. This will help you avoid harm to your body and damage to the magnets.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Although magnets have demonstrated their effectiveness up to 80°C or 175°F, the temperature can vary depending on the type, shape, and intended use of the specific magnet.

Please read the article - What danger lies in neodymium magnets? You will learn how to handle them properly.
