How did cats deal with sliding doors?

|

Many pet owners know how big a problem escaping pets can be. especially since these four-legged tricksters learn quickly and can handle various unusual situations, like opening doors. such a problem was faced by an Australian. his cats, of which he had several, loved to wander around the whole house. they also learned to open sliding doors, of which the owner had several in the building. of course, closing them was out of the question - after opening, none of the cats intended to close them, because why would they? the whole situation greatly irritated the Australian, and at some point, he decided to do something about it. primarily, a solution was needed that would not hinder the daily functioning of the household, while at the same time preventing the animals from constantly wandering around the house. due to the construction in the sliding doors, it was not possible to install classic handles and locks, so a different idea was needed. the solution turned out to be typical neodymium magnets, which can be easily obtained in many stores. the installation itself was not problematic, it was quick and did not interfere with the structure of the doors, and very effectively secured the entire house against cat walks.

Magnets as a means to secure doors from opening.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by their enormous strength despite their small size. a magnet with just a few square centimeters of surface area can be so strong that an adult would struggle to detach it from a metal surface. the ingenious Australian decided to buy small but strong embedded magnets, one pair for each door. such a pair of magnets is characterized by the fact that they will strongly repel each other if they are brought close together with the same poles, or attract with opposite poles. one of the magnets was placed on the door frame, another was attached to the side edge of the door. thus, when the door was closed, the magnets attracted each other, providing additional security against opening. the force of this attraction was small enough that the household members could open everything without hindrance, but for the cats, it was an insurmountable barrier. this idea can be used not only to secure against animals. various kinds of cabinets or drawers or recessed cabinets can be equipped with magnetic locks that secure against opening. a huge advantage of using magnets is that their installation does not require any specialized work. they can simply be glued on with adhesive or special tape, but of course, there is also no problem with them being embedded in the furniture board.

A simple way to have doors that always close

Doors that don't close properly due to a draft or a construction error can be a real nuisance. instead of propping a stool or a table against them every night, buy two magnets. place one on the door and the other on the frame, making sure they are at the same height. if one of the elements is metallic, you only need one magnet.

FAQ - Good to know

A magnetic latch is the perfect solution so that balcony doors do not open from a draft when you go out to the terrace. Installation is simple and does not require a handle from the outside.
These are so-called 'invisible locks'. The mechanism is inside, the cabinet front remains smooth. A child has neither the strength nor the knowledge to open it, and an adult does it with one movement of a magnet.
If the hinges are worn and the door sticks out, mount a small neodymium magnet in the corner. Its force will pull and hold the sash in the perfect position.
