magnetic windshield cover

Why is properly installing a windshield cover so important?

|

You wake up early in the morning, rushing to work, and suddenly remember that you didn't put on the windshield cover. And it's the middle of winter, so you need to add an extra fifteen minutes to remove the overnight snow or frost. This nightmare affects thousands of car users who either haven't bought a cover yet or simply forgot to put it on. But when installing, it's also important that the cover fits well. If it doesn't, it may not fulfill its purpose, as if it's too loose, the windshield will still get frosted. And secondly, one must also consider the wind, which can blow strongly in winter. Improper or loose fitting, leaving too much fabric sticking out, is asking for trouble in the morning, seeing sadly hanging shreds. So not only will we end up scraping the windshield, but we'll also need to buy another cover. Therefore, it's worth installing the cover as accurately as possible the night before. This will help avoid unpleasant surprises the next day, especially if someone is in a hurry. And very helpful in this can be small but very effective magnetic mounts. Some covers are already factory-equipped with them, but there's no problem adding them yourself.

How to attach a cover using magnets?

Since car bodies are made of steel sheets, it becomes natural that in many cases magnets will be an excellent solution. The same applies to windshield covers. How useful they are in winter probably needs no convincing for any driver. Most models are fitted in such a way that the sides are closed in the front doors, or the whole is attached to the mirrors using holders. Some versions additionally have sewn-in magnets, but this is not a commonly encountered solution. But regardless of whether the magnets are already in the cover or not, it's worth considering adding a set of magnets to significantly improve the comfort of using the cover. Samarium-cobalt magnets, which have a wide operating temperature range and, most importantly, are corrosion-resistant, will perform very well in this role. This is very important because, after all, snow and rain are normal phenomena in winter. Four magnets sewn into the four corners of the cover will ensure perfect fitting, and even strong wind will not manage to detach the fabric. If someone has a needle, thread, a piece of fabric, and a bit of skill, they can easily do it themselves, or they can always ask a seamstress friend for help. The cost of buying magnets and sewing them in is small, but such a solution will be appreciated by every driver in winter.

Common Questions

Just sew a few small neodymium magnets into the edge of the mat. They will stick to the bodywork (pillars and roof), perfectly pressing the cover and blocking the wind.
A bare magnet can scratch the paint. It should be sewn into fabric or use rubber-coated magnets (waterproof), which are safe for bodywork.
We recommend 4-6 attachment points. Neodymium magnets with a pull of approx. 1-2 kg will be ideal. Remember that glass is not magnetic – we stick to the metal frame of the roof/pillars.
