The device rod magnetic is based on the use of neodymium magnets, which are placed in a construction made of stainless steel mostly AISI304. In this way, it is possible to precisely separate ferromagnetic elements from different substances. A key aspect of its operation is the use of repulsion of N and S poles of neodymium magnets, which causes magnetic substances to be targeted. The thickness of the magnet and its structure's pitch determine the power and range of the separator's operation.
Generally speaking, magnetic separators serve to extract ferromagnetic elements. If the cans are ferromagnetic, a magnetic separator will be effective. However, if the cans are made of non-ferromagnetic materials, such as aluminum, the separator will not effectively segregate them.
Yes, magnetic rollers are used in the food sector to remove metallic contaminants, such as iron fragments or iron dust. Our rollers are built from durable acid-resistant steel, EN 1.4301, suitable for use in food.
Magnetic rollers, often called cylindrical magnets, find application in metal separation, food production as well as waste processing. They help in eliminating iron dust during the process of separating metals from other materials.
Our magnetic rollers consist of neodymium magnets embedded in a stainless steel tube cylinder made of stainless steel with a wall thickness of 1mm.
Both ends of the magnetic bar can be with M8 threaded openings, allowing for quick installation in machines or magnetic filter drawers. A "blind" version is also possible in manual separators.
In terms of forces, magnetic bars differ in terms of flux density, magnetic force lines and the field of the magnetic field. We produce them in two materials, N42 and N52.
Usually it is believed that the greater the magnet's power, the better. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of the magnet's power depends on the height of the used magnet and the quality of the material [N42] or [N52], as well as on the area of application and expected needs. The standard operating temperature of a magnetic bar is 80°C.
If the magnet is thin, the magnetic force lines are short. Otherwise, in the case of a thicker magnet, the force lines will be longer and reach further.
For creating the casings of magnetic separators - rollers, frequently stainless steel is utilized, particularly types AISI 316, AISI 316L, and AISI 304.
In a saltwater environment, type AISI 316 steel is recommended thanks to its exceptional corrosion resistance.
Magnetic rollers stand out for their unique configuration of poles and their ability to attract magnetic particles directly onto their surface, as opposed to other devices that may utilize complex filtration systems.
Technical designations and terms pertaining to magnetic separators include among others magnet pitch, polarity, and magnetic induction, as well as the type of steel used.
Magnetic induction for a roller is determined using a teslameter or a gaussmeter with a flat Hall-effect probe, seeking the highest magnetic field value close to the magnetic pole. The outcome is verified in a value table - the lowest is N30. All designations below N27 or N25 indicate recycling that falls below the standard - they are not suitable.
Neodymium magnetic bars offer a range of benefits such as excellent separation efficiency, strong magnetic field, and durability. Disadvantages may include the need for regular cleaning, higher cost, and potential installation challenges.
By ensuring proper maintenance of neodymium magnetic rollers, it’s worth they should be regularly cleaned, avoiding temperatures up to 80°C. The rollers feature waterproofing IP67, so if they are leaky, the magnets inside can rust and lose their power. Testing of the rollers should be carried out every two years. Caution should be taken during use, as it’s possible getting pinched. If the protective tube is only 0.5 mm thick, it may wear out, which in turn could cause problems with the magnetic rod seal and product contamination. The effective range of the roller corresponds to its diameter: fi25mm gives an active range of about 25mm, while fi32 gives an active range of about 40mm.
Magnetic rollers are cylindrical neodymium magnets placed in a casing made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel, which are used to remove metal contaminants from bulk and granular materials. They are used in the food industry, recycling, and plastic processing, where metal separation is crucial.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense strength, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their strength (of the magnet). After approximately 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are highly resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic field,
  • In other words, thanks to the shiny nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an visually attractive appearance,
  • They possess very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Thanks to their high temperature resistance, they can operate (depending on the form) even at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming or adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in a wide range of shapes and sizes, which amplifies their universality in usage.
  • Significant importance in modern technologies – are used in HDD drives, electric motors, medical devices or other advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a steel housing. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • High temperatures can reduce the power of neodymium magnets. Typically, after heating above 80°C, most of them experience a permanent loss in strength (although it is dependent on the shape and size). To prevent this, we offer special magnets marked with the symbol [AH], which are highly resistant to high temperatures. They can operate even at temperatures up to 230°C, making them an ideal solution for applications requiring high-temperature operation,
  • They rust in a humid environment - during outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Health risk arising from small pieces of magnets pose a threat, when accidentally ingested, which is particularly important in the context of children's health. It's also worth noting that small elements of these magnets can complicate diagnosis after entering the body.

Handle with Care: Neodymium Magnets

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are highly flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

Despite the general resilience of magnets, their ability to retain their magnetic strength can be influenced by factors like the type of material used, the magnet's shape, and the intended purpose for which it is employed.

Neodymium magnetic are characterized by being fragile, which can cause them to become damaged.

In the event of a collision between two neodymium magnets, it can result in them getting chipped. Despite being made of metal as well as coated with a shiny nickel plating, they are not as hard as steel. In the case of a collision between two magnets, there can be a scattering of small sharp metal fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is essential.

Keep neodymium magnets away from TV, wallet, and computer HDD.

Neodymium magnets produce strong magnetic fields that can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, etc. devices. They can also damage devices like video players, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Remember not to place neodymium magnets close to these electronic devices.

It is crucial not to allow the magnets to pinch together uncontrollably or place your fingers in their path as they attract to each other.

Neodymium magnets will bounce and also contact together within a radius of several to around 10 cm from each other.

People with pacemakers are advised to avoid neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets produce strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a heart pacemaker. However, if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the device when it is in a magnetic field.

Avoid bringing neodymium magnets close to a phone or GPS.

Magnetic fields interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation for air and sea transport, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Avoid contact with neodymium magnets if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets ever created, and their strength can surprise you.

Make sure to review all the information we have provided. This will help you avoid harm to your body and damage to the magnets.

Do not give neodymium magnets to youngest children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. You cannot allow them to become toys for children. Small magnets pose a serious choking hazard or can attract to each other in the intestines. In such cases, the only solution is to undergo surgery to remove the magnets, and otherwise, it can even lead to death.

So you are aware of why neodymium magnets are so dangerous, see the article titled How very dangerous are very powerful neodymium magnets?.
