The magnetic separator, namely the magnetic roller, uses the power of neodymium magnets, placed in a casing made of stainless steel mostly AISI304. Due to this, it is possible to effectively segregate ferromagnetic particles from different substances. A fundamental component of its operation is the repulsion of magnetic poles N and S, which allows magnetic substances to be targeted. The thickness of the embedded magnet and its structure pitch affect the power and range of the separator's operation.
Generally speaking, magnetic separators are used to separate ferromagnetic elements. If the cans are made from ferromagnetic materials, the separator will be able to separate them. However, if the cans are made of non-ferromagnetic materials, such as aluminum, the separator will not be able to separate them.
Yes, magnetic rollers find application in food production for the elimination of metallic contaminants, such as iron fragments or iron dust. Our rollers are made from acid-resistant steel, AISI 304, approved for contact with food.
Magnetic rollers, otherwise magnetic separators, are used in food production, metal separation as well as recycling. They help in extracting iron dust in the course of the process of separating metals from other wastes.
Our magnetic rollers consist of neodymium magnets placed in a stainless steel tube casing of stainless steel with a wall thickness of 1mm.
From both sides of the magnetic bar will be with M8 threaded openings, which enables easy installation in machines or magnetic filter drawers. A "blind" version is also possible in manual separators.
In terms of forces, magnetic bars stand out in terms of magnetic force lines, flux density and the area of operation of the magnetic field. We produce them in two materials, N42 and N52.
Often it is believed that the stronger the magnet, the better. But, the strength of the magnet's power is based on the height of the used magnet and the quality of the material [N42] or [N52], as well as on the area of application and specific needs. The standard operating temperature of a magnetic bar is 80°C.
When the magnet is thin, the magnetic force lines are more compressed. On the other hand, when the magnet is thick, the force lines are longer and extend over a greater distance.
For constructing the casings of magnetic separators - rollers, usually stainless steel is employed, especially types AISI 316, AISI 316L, and AISI 304.
In a salt water contact, type AISI 316 steel is highly recommended thanks to its excellent anti-corrosion properties.
Magnetic rollers are characterized by their unique configuration of poles and their capability to attract magnetic particles directly onto their surface, as opposed to other devices that often use more complicated filtration systems.
Technical designations and terms pertaining to magnetic separators include amongst others magnet pitch, polarity, and magnetic induction, as well as the steel type applied.
Magnetic induction for a magnet on a roller is determined using a teslameter or a gaussmeter with a flat Hall-effect probe, aiming to find the highest magnetic field value close to the magnetic pole. The outcome is checked in a value table - the lowest is N30. All designations below N27 or N25 suggest recycling that falls below the standard - they are not suitable.
Neodymium magnetic rollers offer many advantages, including a very strong magnetic field, the ability to capture even the tiniest metal particles, and durability. However, some of the downsides may involve the requirement for frequent cleaning, greater weight, and potential installation difficulties.
By ensuring proper maintenance of neodymium magnetic rollers, it is recommended they should be regularly cleaned, avoiding temperatures up to 80°C. The rollers our rollers have waterproofing IP67, so if they are leaky, the magnets inside can oxidize and lose their power. Magnetic field measurements should be carried out every two years. Caution should be taken during use, as it’s possible getting pinched. If the protective tube is only 0.5 mm thick, it may wear out, which in turn could lead to problems with the magnetic rod seal and product contamination. The range of the roller is equal to its diameter: fi25mm gives an active range of about 25mm, while fi32 gives an active range of about 40mm.
A magnetic roller is a magnetic separator made from a neodymium magnet enclosed in a cylindrical stainless steel housing, which are used to remove metal contaminants from bulk and granular materials. They are applied in industries such as food processing, ceramics, and recycling, where metal separation is crucial.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their power (of the magnet). After about 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They protect against demagnetization caused by external magnetic field very well,
  • In other words, thanks to the glossy nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an visually attractive appearance,
  • They exhibit extremely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by hugely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the form) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming and adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in various forms and dimensions, which expands the range of their possible uses.
  • Significant importance in the industry of new technologies – are used in hard drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical devices or very highly developed apparatuses.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a metal holder. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • They lose strength at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the shape and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore, when using them outdoors, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Health risk arising from small pieces of magnets are risky, if swallowed, which is particularly important in the aspect of protecting young children. It's also worth noting that tiny parts of these devices can hinder the diagnostic process after entering the body.

Be Cautious with Neodymium Magnets

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Although magnets have demonstrated their effectiveness up to 80°C or 175°F, the temperature can vary depending on the type, shape, and intended use of the specific magnet.

Neodymium magnets can attract to each other, pinch the skin, and cause significant swellings.

If the joining of neodymium magnets is not controlled, at that time they may crumble and crack. You can't move them to each other. At a distance less than 10 cm you should have them very firmly.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are highly flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

Neodymium magnets are the strongest, most remarkable magnets on the planet, and the surprising force between them can surprise you at first.

Please review the information on how to handle neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body, as well as prevent unintentional disruption to the magnets.

Neodymium magnetic are known for their fragility, which can cause them to crumble.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by considerable fragility. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel, but they are not as durable as steel. At the moment of connection between the magnets, sharp metal fragments can be dispersed in different directions.

Keep neodymium magnets far from children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Be cautious and make sure no child plays with them. In the case of swallowing multiple magnets simultaneously, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls. In the worst case scenario, this can lead to death.

Do not place neodymium magnets near a computer HDD, TV, and wallet.

Strong magnetic fields emitted by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other devices. In addition, they can damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. Avoid placing neodymium magnets in close proximity to electronic devices.

Avoid contact with neodymium magnets if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Keep neodymium magnets as far away as possible from GPS and smartphones.

Neodymium magnets produce intense magnetic fields that interfere with magnetometers and compasses used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

People with pacemakers are advised to avoid neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

In order to illustrate why neodymium magnets are so dangerous, see the article - How very dangerous are very strong neodymium magnets?.
