The magnetic separator, namely the magnetic roller, uses the power of neodymium magnets, which are welded in a casing made of stainless steel usually AISI304. Due to this, it is possible to precisely segregate ferromagnetic elements from different substances. An important element of its operation is the repulsion of N and S poles of neodymium magnets, which causes magnetic substances to be targeted. The thickness of the magnet and its structure's pitch affect the power and range of the separator's operation.
Generally speaking, magnetic separators are designed to extract ferromagnetic elements. If the cans are ferromagnetic, the separator will be able to separate them. However, if the cans are made of non-ferromagnetic materials, such as aluminum, the separator will not be able to separate them.
Yes, magnetic rollers are employed in food production for the elimination of metallic contaminants, such as iron fragments or iron dust. Our rollers are built from acid-resistant steel, AISI 304, suitable for use in food.
Magnetic rollers, often called cylindrical magnets, find application in metal separation, food production as well as recycling. They help in removing iron dust during the process of separating metals from other wastes.
Our magnetic rollers consist of neodymium magnets embedded in a stainless steel tube cylinder made of stainless steel with a wall thickness of 1mm.
From both sides of the magnetic bar will be with M8 threaded openings, enabling quick installation in machines or magnetic filter drawers. A "blind" version is also possible in manual separators.
In terms of magnetic properties, magnetic bars stand out in terms of magnetic force lines, flux density and the field of the magnetic field. We produce them in two materials, N42 as well as N52.
Often it is believed that the greater the magnet's power, the more effective. But, the strength of the magnet's power is based on the height of the used magnet and the quality of the material [N42] or [N52], as well as on the area of application and anticipated needs. The standard operating temperature of a magnetic bar is 80°C.
If the magnet is thin, the magnetic force lines will be more compressed. Otherwise, when the magnet is thick, the force lines are extended and reach further.
For creating the casings of magnetic separators - rollers, most often stainless steel is used, particularly types AISI 316, AISI 316L, and AISI 304.
In a saltwater contact, AISI 316 steel is recommended thanks to its outstanding anti-corrosion properties.
Magnetic bars are characterized by their specific arrangement of poles and their capability to attract magnetic particles directly onto their surface, in contrast to other devices that often use more complicated filtration systems.
Technical designations and terms pertaining to magnetic separators comprise amongst others magnet pitch, polarity, and magnetic induction, as well as the steel type applied.
Magnetic induction for a magnet on a roller is determined using a teslameter or a gaussmeter with a flat Hall-effect probe, aiming to find the highest magnetic field value close to the magnetic pole. The result is checked in a value table - the lowest is N30. All designations less than N27 or N25 indicate recycling that falls below the standard - they are not suitable.
Neodymium magnetic rollers offer many advantages, including a very strong magnetic field, the ability to capture even the tiniest metal particles, and durability. However, some of the downsides may involve the need for regular cleaning, higher cost, and potential installation challenges.
By ensuring proper maintenance of neodymium magnetic rollers, you should regularly cleaning them from contaminants, avoiding extreme temperatures up to 80°C, and shielding them from moisture if the threads are not sealed – in ours, they are. The rollers feature waterproofing IP67, so if they are leaky, the magnets inside can rust and lose their power. Testing of the rollers is recommended be carried out every two years. Care should be taken, as there is a risk getting pinched. If the protective tube is only 0.5 mm thick, it may wear out, which in turn could cause problems with the magnetic rod seal and product contamination. The range of the roller is equal to its diameter: fi25mm gives an active range of about 25mm, while fi32 gives an active range of about 40mm.
A magnetic roller is a magnetic separator made from a neodymium magnet enclosed in a cylindrical stainless steel housing, used for separating ferromagnetic contaminants from raw materials. They are used in the food industry, recycling, and plastic processing, where the removal of iron metals and iron filings is essential.

Product suggestions

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose strength over time. After approximately 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are highly resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic sources,
  • By applying a shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They have exceptionally high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the form) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • Thanks to the flexibility in shaping and the ability to adapt to specific requirements – neodymium magnets can be produced in various forms and dimensions, which expands the range of their possible uses.
  • Significant importance in modern technologies – find application in computer drives, electric motors, medical devices and various technologically advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • They lose strength at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the shape and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore, when using them outdoors, we suggest using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Health risk arising from small pieces of magnets can be dangerous, in case of ingestion, which is particularly important in the aspect of protecting young children. Furthermore, small elements of these devices can complicate diagnosis in case of swallowing.

Handle Neodymium Magnets Carefully

Neodymium magnetic are highly susceptible to damage, resulting in their cracking.

In the event of a collision between two neodymium magnets, it can result in them getting chipped. They are coated with a shiny nickel plating similar to steel, but they are not as hard. In the case of a collision between two magnets, there can be a scattering of small sharp metal fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is essential.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are highly flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Although magnets have demonstrated their effectiveness up to 80°C or 175°F, the temperature can vary depending on the type, shape, and intended use of the specific magnet.

Magnets will attract to each other, so remember not to allow them to pinch together without control or place your fingers in their path.

Magnets will bounce and also touch together within a distance of several to almost 10 cm from each other.

Neodymium magnets are the strongest, most remarkable magnets on earth, and the surprising force between them can shock you at first.

Please review the information on how to handle neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body, as well as prevent unintentional damage to the magnets.

Under no circumstances should neodymium magnets be brought close to GPS and smartphones.

Magnetic fields generated by neodymium magnets interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Under no circumstances should neodymium magnets be placed near a computer HDD, TV, and wallet.

Strong magnetic fields emitted by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other devices. They can also damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. Avoid placing neodymium magnets in close proximity to electronic devices.

Magnets should not be treated as toys. Therefore, it is not recommended for youngest children to have access to them.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. You cannot allow them to become toys for children. Small magnets pose a serious choking hazard or can attract to each other in the intestines. In such cases, the only solution is to undergo surgery to remove the magnets, and otherwise, it can even lead to death.

The magnet coating contains nickel, so be cautious if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

People with pacemakers are advised to avoid neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

So you are aware of why neodymium magnets are so dangerous, see the article titled How very dangerous are very strong neodymium magnets?.
