The main mechanism of the magnetic separator is the use of neodymium magnets, which are welded in a construction made of stainless steel mostly AISI304. In this way, it is possible to efficiently separate ferromagnetic elements from different substances. An important element of its operation is the repulsion of magnetic poles N and S, which allows magnetic substances to be collected. The thickness of the magnet and its structure pitch affect the range and strength of the separator's operation.
Generally speaking, magnetic separators are used to separate ferromagnetic elements. If the cans are made from ferromagnetic materials, a magnetic separator will be effective. However, if the cans are made of non-ferromagnetic materials, such as aluminum, the separator will not be able to separate them.
Yes, magnetic rollers find application in the food industry to clear metallic contaminants, including iron fragments or iron dust. Our rods are made from durable acid-resistant steel, EN 1.4301, approved for use in food.
Magnetic rollers, often called cylindrical magnets, are used in food production, metal separation as well as waste processing. They help in eliminating iron dust during the process of separating metals from other wastes.
Our magnetic rollers consist of neodymium magnets placed in a stainless steel tube casing made of stainless steel with a wall thickness of 1mm.
Both ends of the magnetic bar can be with M8 threaded holes - 18 mm, enabling simple mounting in machines or magnetic filter drawers. A "blind" version is also possible in manual separators.
In terms of magnetic properties, magnetic bars stand out in terms of flux density, magnetic force lines and the field of the magnetic field. We produce them in materials, N42 and N52.
Often it is believed that the stronger the magnet, the better. But, the effectiveness of the magnet's power is dependent on the height of the used magnet and the quality of the material [N42] or [N52], as well as on the area of use and anticipated needs. The standard operating temperature of a magnetic bar is 80°C.
When the magnet is thin, the magnetic force lines are short. By contrast, when the magnet is thick, the force lines are extended and extend over a greater distance.
For creating the casings of magnetic separators - rollers, frequently stainless steel is utilized, especially types AISI 304, AISI 316, and AISI 316L.
In a saltwater contact, type AISI 316 steel exhibits the best resistance due to its exceptional anti-corrosion properties.
Magnetic rollers stand out for their specific arrangement of poles and their capability to attract magnetic substances directly onto their surface, in contrast to other devices that often use more complicated filtration systems.
Technical designations and terms pertaining to magnetic separators comprise amongst others polarity, magnetic induction, magnet pitch, as well as the steel type applied.
Magnetic induction for a magnet on a roller is measured using a teslameter or a gaussmeter with a flat Hall-effect probe, seeking the highest magnetic field value near the magnetic pole. The result is checked in a value table - the lowest is N30. All designations less than N27 or N25 suggest recycling that falls below the standard - they are not suitable.
Neodymium magnetic bars offer many advantages, including a very strong magnetic field, the ability to capture even the tiniest metal particles, and durability. However, some of the downsides may involve the requirement for frequent cleaning, greater weight, and potential installation difficulties.
To properly maintain of neodymium magnetic rollers, it’s worth washing regularly, avoiding temperatures above 80 degrees. The rollers our rollers have waterproofing IP67, so if they are not sealed, the magnets inside can rust and weaken. Magnetic field measurements should be carried out once every 24 months. Care should be taken, as there is a risk getting pinched. If the protective tube is only 0.5 mm thick, it may wear out, which in turn could lead to problems with the magnetic rod seal and product contamination. The effective range of the roller corresponds to its diameter: fi25mm gives an active range of about 25mm, while fi32 gives an active range of about 40mm.
Magnetic rollers are cylindrical neodymium magnets placed in a casing made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel, which are used to remove metal contaminants from bulk and granular materials. They are applied in industries such as food processing, ceramics, and recycling, where metal separation is crucial.

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their power (of the magnet). After approximately 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They protect against demagnetization caused by external magnetic sources extremely well,
  • Thanks to the shiny finish and nickel, gold, or silver coating, they have an aesthetic appearance,
  • They have very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Thanks to their high temperature resistance, they can operate (depending on the form) even at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • The ability for precise shaping and customization to specific needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in many variants of shapes and sizes, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Wide application in modern technologies – are used in computer drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical equipment and other highly developed apparatuses.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a metal holder. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • Magnets lose their power due to exposure to high temperatures. In most cases, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, these magnets experience permanent reduction in strength (although it is worth noting that this is dependent on the shape and size of the magnet). To avoid this problem, we offer special magnets marked with the [AH] symbol, which exhibit high temperature resistance. They can operate even at temperatures as high as 230°C or more,
  • Due to their susceptibility to corrosion in a humid environment, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials when using them outdoors,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Health risk arising from small pieces of magnets can be dangerous, when accidentally ingested, which is crucial in the context of children's health. Additionally, miniscule components of these devices can complicate diagnosis when they are in the body.

Precautions with Neodymium Magnets

Neodymium magnets are among the strongest magnets on Earth. The astonishing force they generate between each other can surprise you.

To use magnets properly, it is best to familiarize yourself with our information beforehand. This will help you avoid significant harm to your body and the magnets themselves.

Magnets will attract to each other, so remember not to allow them to pinch together without control or place your fingers in their path.

Magnets will attract each other within a distance of several to about 10 cm from each other. Don't put your fingers in the path of magnet attraction, because a serious injury may occur. Depending on how large the neodymium magnets are, they can lead to a cut or a fracture.

Do not place neodymium magnets near a computer HDD, TV, and wallet.

Strong magnetic fields emitted by neodymium magnets can destroy magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other devices. In addition, they can damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. You should especially avoid placing neodymium magnets near electronic devices.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

People with pacemakers are advised to avoid neodymium magnets.

In the case of neodymium magnets, there is a strong magnetic field. As a result, it interferes with the operation of a heart pacemaker. However, if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the device when it is in a magnetic field.

Magnets made of neodymium are known for their fragility, which can cause them to crumble.

In the event of a collision between two neodymium magnets, it can result in them getting chipped. Despite being made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel plating, they are not as hard as steel. In the case of a collision between two magnets, there can be a scattering of small sharp metal fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is essential.

Magnets should not be treated as toys. Therefore, it is not recommended for youngest children to have access to them.

Not all neodymium magnets are toys, so do not let children play with them. In such a situation, surgery is necessary to remove them. In the worst case scenario, it can result in death.

Never bring neodymium magnets close to a phone and GPS.

Neodymium magnets are a source of strong magnetic fields that cause interference with magnetometers and compasses used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

The magnet is coated with nickel. Therefore, exercise caution if you have an allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Despite the fact that magnets have been observed to maintain their efficacy up to temperatures of 80°C or 175°F, it's essential to consider that this threshold may fluctuate depending on the magnet's type, configuration, and intended usage.
