The device rod magnetic is based on the use of neodymium magnets, which are welded in a casing made of stainless steel usually AISI304. As a result, it is possible to precisely segregate ferromagnetic elements from other materials. A key aspect of its operation is the repulsion of N and S poles of neodymium magnets, which enables magnetic substances to be attracted. The thickness of the embedded magnet and its structure's pitch determine the range and strength of the separator's operation.
Generally speaking, magnetic separators serve to extract ferromagnetic elements. If the cans are ferromagnetic, a magnetic separator will be effective. However, if the cans are made of non-ferromagnetic materials, such as aluminum, the separator will not be able to separate them.
Yes, magnetic rollers find application in the food industry to clear metallic contaminants, for example iron fragments or iron dust. Our rods are made from acid-resistant steel, AISI 304, suitable for use in food.
Magnetic rollers, often called cylindrical magnets, are employed in metal separation, food production as well as waste processing. They help in eliminating iron dust in the course of the process of separating metals from other wastes.
Our magnetic rollers consist of a neodymium magnet anchored in a tube of stainless steel with a wall thickness of 1mm.
From both sides of the magnetic bar will be with M8 threaded openings, which enables quick installation in machines or magnetic filter drawers. A "blind" version is also possible in manual separators.
In terms of forces, magnetic bars stand out in terms of magnetic force lines, flux density and the area of operation of the magnetic field. We produce them in two materials, N42 and N52.
Often it is believed that the stronger the magnet, the better. But, the strength of the magnet's power is based on the height of the used magnet and the quality of the material [N42] or [N52], as well as on the area of use and specific needs. The standard operating temperature of a magnetic bar is 80°C.
When the magnet is more flat, the magnetic force lines will be more compressed. On the other hand, in the case of a thicker magnet, the force lines will be longer and reach further.
For making the casings of magnetic separators - rollers, most often stainless steel is used, particularly types AISI 316, AISI 316L, and AISI 304.
In a saltwater contact, type AISI 316 steel is highly recommended due to its outstanding anti-corrosion properties.
Magnetic bars stand out for their unique configuration of poles and their capability to attract magnetic particles directly onto their surface, in contrast to other devices that may utilize more complicated filtration systems.
Technical designations and terms related to magnetic separators include amongst others magnet pitch, polarity, and magnetic induction, as well as the type of steel used.
Magnetic induction for a roller is measured using a teslameter or a gaussmeter with a flat Hall-effect probe, seeking the highest magnetic field value close to the magnetic pole. The result is checked in a value table - the lowest is N30. All designations less than N27 or N25 suggest recycling that falls below the standard - they are not suitable.
Neodymium magnetic rollers offer a range of benefits such as excellent separation efficiency, strong magnetic field, and durability. However, some of the downsides may involve higher cost compared to other types of magnets and the need for regular maintenance.
By ensuring proper maintenance of neodymium magnetic rollers, it is recommended washing regularly, avoiding temperatures above 80 degrees. The rollers our rollers have waterproofing IP67, so if they are leaky, the magnets inside can rust and weaken. Magnetic field measurements is recommended be carried out every two years. Caution should be taken during use, as there is a risk of finger injury. If the protective tube is only 0.5 mm thick, it may wear out, which in turn could cause problems with the magnetic rod seal and product contamination. The effective range of the roller is equal to its diameter: fi25mm gives an active range of about 25mm, while fi32 gives an active range of about 40mm.
A magnetic roller is a magnetic separator made from a neodymium magnet enclosed in a cylindrical stainless steel housing, used for separating ferromagnetic contaminants from raw materials. They are applied in industries such as food processing, ceramics, and recycling, where the removal of iron metals and iron filings is essential.

Product suggestions

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense strength, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose power over time. After approximately 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are extremely resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic sources,
  • In other words, thanks to the shiny nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an visually attractive appearance,
  • They have very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • By using an appropriate combination of materials, they can achieve significant thermal resistance, allowing them to operate at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming or adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in many variants of shapes and sizes, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Significant importance in modern technologies – are utilized in computer drives, electric motors, medical apparatus or very advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a steel housing. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • They lose power at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the shape and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • They rust in a humid environment - during outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Health risk to health from tiny fragments of magnets pose a threat, in case of ingestion, which is crucial in the context of children's health. Furthermore, miniscule components of these magnets have the potential to hinder the diagnostic process when they are in the body.

Exercise Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Neodymium magnets should not be near people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate strong magnetic fields. As a result, they interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

Neodymium magnetic are extremely fragile, leading to breaking.

In the event of a collision between two neodymium magnets, it can result in them getting chipped. Despite being made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel plating, they are not as hard as steel. In the case of a collision between two magnets, there can be a scattering of small sharp metal fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is essential.

Do not give neodymium magnets to children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. You cannot allow them to become toys for children. In such a situation, surgery is necessary to remove them. In the worst case scenario, it can result in death.

Magnets will attract to each other, so remember not to allow them to pinch together without control or place your fingers in their path.

Magnets will bounce and clash together within a radius of several to around 10 cm from each other.

Do not bring neodymium magnets close to GPS and smartphones.

Strong fields generated by neodymium magnets interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

Whilst Neodymium magnets can lose their magnetic properties at high temperatures, it's important to note that the extent of this effect can vary based on factors such as the magnet's material, shape, and intended application.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Keep neodymium magnets away from the wallet, computer, and TV.

The strong magnetic field generated by neodymium magnets can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, etc. devices. They can also destroy videos, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Do not forget to keep neodymium magnets away from these electronic devices.

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful, most remarkable magnets on earth, and the surprising force between them can surprise you at first.

On our website, you can find information on how to use neodymium magnets. This will help you avoid injuries and prevent damage to the magnets.

Avoid contact with neodymium magnets if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

In order to illustrate why neodymium magnets are so dangerous, see the article - How very dangerous are very strong neodymium magnets?.
