The device roller magnetic is based on the use of neodymium magnets, placed in a construction made of stainless steel usually AISI304. Due to this, it is possible to precisely separate ferromagnetic particles from different substances. A key aspect of its operation is the repulsion of N and S poles of neodymium magnets, which causes magnetic substances to be attracted. The thickness of the magnet and its structure's pitch affect the power and range of the separator's operation.
Generally speaking, magnetic separators are used to extract ferromagnetic particles. If the cans are ferromagnetic, the separator will effectively segregate them. However, if the cans are made of non-ferromagnetic materials, such as aluminum, the separator will not effectively segregate them.
Yes, magnetic rollers are employed in the food industry to remove metallic contaminants, for example iron fragments or iron dust. Our rollers are constructed from durable acid-resistant steel, EN 1.4301, suitable for contact with food.
Magnetic rollers, otherwise cylindrical magnets, are employed in food production, metal separation as well as waste processing. They help in extracting iron dust during the process of separating metals from other wastes.
Our magnetic rollers are built with neodymium magnets placed in a tube made of stainless steel with a wall thickness of 1mm.
Both ends of the magnetic bar can be with M8 threaded openings, allowing for easy installation in machines or magnetic filter drawers. A "blind" version is also possible in manual separators.
In terms of magnetic properties, magnetic bars differ in terms of flux density, magnetic force lines and the area of operation of the magnetic field. We produce them in materials, N42 and N52.
Often it is believed that the greater the magnet's power, the more efficient it is. However, the strength of the magnet's power is based on the height of the used magnet and the quality of the material [N42] or [N52], as well as on the area of use and expected needs. The standard operating temperature of a magnetic bar is 80°C.
When the magnet is thin, the magnetic force lines will be short. Otherwise, in the case of a thicker magnet, the force lines will be longer and reach further.
For creating the casings of magnetic separators - rollers, most often stainless steel is used, especially types AISI 316, AISI 316L, and AISI 304.
In a salt water environment, type AISI 316 steel is highly recommended thanks to its outstanding corrosion resistance.
Magnetic bars stand out for their specific arrangement of poles and their ability to attract magnetic particles directly onto their surface, as opposed to other devices that often use complex filtration systems.
Technical designations and terms related to magnetic separators comprise amongst others polarity, magnetic induction, magnet pitch, as well as the type of steel used.
Magnetic induction for a magnet on a roller is measured using a teslameter or a gaussmeter with a flat Hall-effect probe, seeking the highest magnetic field value close to the magnetic pole. The result is verified in a value table - the lowest is N30. All designations below N27 or N25 suggest recycling that falls below the standard - they are not suitable.
Neodymium magnetic rollers offer many advantages, including excellent separation efficiency, strong magnetic field, and durability. However, some of the downsides may involve the requirement for frequent cleaning, greater weight, and potential installation difficulties.
For proper maintenance of neodymium magnetic rollers, you should regularly cleaning them from deposits, avoiding extreme temperatures above 80 degrees, and protecting them from moisture if the threads are not sealed – in ours, they are. The rollers feature waterproofing IP67, so if they are not sealed, the magnets inside can rust and weaken. Magnetic field measurements should be carried out every two years. Caution should be taken during use, as it’s possible getting pinched. If the protective tube is only 0.5 mm thick, it may wear out, which in turn could cause problems with the magnetic rod seal and product contamination. The range of the roller corresponds to its diameter: fi25mm gives an active range of about 25mm, while fi32 gives an active range of about 40mm.
A magnetic roller is a magnetic separator made from a neodymium magnet enclosed in a cylindrical stainless steel housing, which are used to remove metal contaminants from bulk and granular materials. They are applied in industries such as food processing, ceramics, and recycling, where the removal of iron metals and iron filings is essential.

Shopping tips

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their strength (of the magnet). After about 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are exceptionally resistant to demagnetization caused by an external magnetic field,
  • By applying a shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They have very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Thanks to their high temperature resistance, they can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming and adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in a wide range of shapes and sizes, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Significant importance in the industry of new technologies – find application in computer drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical equipment and other highly developed apparatuses.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are prone to breaking as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • Magnets lose their power due to exposure to high temperatures. In most cases, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, these magnets experience permanent loss in strength (although it is worth noting that this is dependent on the shape and size of the magnet). To avoid this problem, we offer special magnets marked with the [AH] symbol, which exhibit high temperature resistance. They can operate even at temperatures as high as 230°C or more,
  • Due to their susceptibility to corrosion in a humid environment, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials when using them outdoors,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Possible danger to health from tiny fragments of magnets pose a threat, if swallowed, which is crucial in the aspect of protecting young children. Additionally, tiny parts of these devices have the potential to be problematic in medical diagnosis after entering the body.

Exercise Caution with Neodymium Magnets

You should maintain neodymium magnets at a safe distance from the wallet, computer, and TV.

Strong magnetic fields emitted by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other devices. In addition, they can damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. You should especially avoid placing neodymium magnets near electronic devices.

People with pacemakers are advised to avoid neodymium magnets.

In the case of neodymium magnets, there is a strong magnetic field. As a result, it interferes with the operation of a heart pacemaker. However, if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the device when it is in a magnetic field.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

Although magnets have demonstrated their effectiveness up to 80°C or 175°F, the temperature can vary depending on the type, shape, and intended use of the specific magnet.

Keep neodymium magnets away from GPS and smartphones.

Magnetic fields can interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in aviation and maritime navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices. There are neodymium magnets in every smartphone, for example, in the microphone and speakers.

Neodymium magnets are the strongest, most remarkable magnets on the planet, and the surprising force between them can surprise you at first.

Familiarize yourself with our information to correctly handle these magnets and avoid significant swellings to your body and prevent disruption to the magnets.

The magnet is coated with nickel - be careful if you have an allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Magnets will attract to each other, so remember not to allow them to pinch together without control or place your fingers in their path.

Magnets may crack or crumble with uncontrolled connecting to each other. You can't move them to each other. At a distance less than 10 cm you should have them very firmly.

Neodymium magnetic are fragile as well as can easily crack and shatter.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by considerable fragility. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel surface, but they are not as hard as steel. At the moment of collision between the magnets, sharp metal fragments can be dispersed in different directions.

It is important to maintain neodymium magnets away from children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Be cautious and make sure no child plays with them. They can be a significant choking hazard. If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls, causing severe injuries, and even death.

To raise awareness of why neodymium magnets are so dangerous, see the article titled How dangerous are very strong neodymium magnets?.
