Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose power over time. After about 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are highly resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic sources,
  • In other words, thanks to the shiny nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They exhibit extremely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the form) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming and adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in a wide range of shapes and sizes, which amplifies their universality in usage.
  • Wide application in modern technologies – are used in hard drives, electric motors, medical equipment and very advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are prone to breaking as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • High temperatures can reduce the strength of neodymium magnets. Typically, after heating above 80°C, most of them experience a permanent reduction in strength (although it is dependent on the shape and size). To prevent this, we offer special magnets marked with the symbol [AH], which are highly resistant to high temperatures. They can operate even at temperatures up to 230°C, making them an ideal solution for applications requiring high-temperature operation,
  • They rust in a humid environment - during outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Health risk arising from small pieces of magnets pose a threat, in case of ingestion, which is particularly important in the context of children's health. Furthermore, miniscule components of these magnets can be problematic in medical diagnosis after entering the body.

Handle Neodymium Magnets Carefully

Under no circumstances should neodymium magnets be placed near a computer HDD, TV, and wallet.

Neodymium magnets produce strong magnetic fields that can damage magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, etc. devices. They can also damage devices like video players, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Remember not to place neodymium magnets close to these electronic devices.

Keep neodymium magnets as far away as possible from GPS and smartphones.

Magnetic fields generated by neodymium magnets interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium magnetic are delicate as well as can easily crack and get damaged.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by significant fragility. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel, but they are not as durable as steel. In the event of a collision between two magnets, there may be a scattering of fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is crucial in such a situation.

If you have a nickel allergy, avoid contact with neodymium magnets.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Magnets will attract to each other, so remember not to allow them to pinch together without control or place your fingers in their path.

If joining of neodymium magnets is not under control, then they may crumble and also crack. Remember not to move them to each other or have them firmly in hands at a distance less than 10 cm.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

In certain circumstances, Neodymium magnets can lose their magnetism when subjected to high temperatures.

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets ever created, and their power can surprise you.

On our website, you can find information on how to use neodymium magnets. This will help you avoid injuries and prevent damage to the magnets.

Neodymium magnets should not be near people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate strong magnetic fields. As a result, they interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This happens because such devices have a function to deactivate them in a magnetic field.

Neodymium magnets should not be in the vicinity children.

Not all neodymium magnets are toys, so do not let children play with them. In the case of small magnets, they can be swallowed and cause choking. In such cases, the only solution is to undergo surgery to remove the magnets, and otherwise, it can even lead to death.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.
