The device rod magnetic is based on the use of neodymium magnets, which are placed in a casing made of stainless steel mostly AISI304. Due to this, it is possible to efficiently segregate ferromagnetic elements from different substances. An important element of its operation is the repulsion of magnetic poles N and S, which allows magnetic substances to be collected. The thickness of the embedded magnet and its structure pitch determine the range and strength of the separator's operation.
Generally speaking, magnetic separators are designed to separate ferromagnetic elements. If the cans are ferromagnetic, a magnetic separator will be effective. However, if the cans are made of non-ferromagnetic materials, such as aluminum, the magnetic separator will not be effective.
Yes, magnetic rollers are used in the food industry to clear metallic contaminants, including iron fragments or iron dust. Our rollers are constructed from acid-resistant steel, AISI 304, intended for contact with food.
Magnetic rollers, otherwise magnetic separators, are employed in metal separation, food production as well as waste processing. They help in eliminating iron dust in the course of the process of separating metals from other materials.
Our magnetic rollers consist of neodymium magnets anchored in a tube of stainless steel with a wall thickness of 1mm.
From both sides of the magnetic bar will be with M8 threaded holes - 18 mm, allowing for simple mounting in machines or magnetic filter drawers. A "blind" version is also possible in manual separators.
In terms of forces, magnetic bars differ in terms of magnetic force lines, flux density and the field of the magnetic field. We produce them in two materials, N42 and N52.
Often it is believed that the stronger the magnet, the more effective. Nevertheless, the strength of the magnet's power is based on the height of the used magnet and the quality of the material [N42] or [N52], as well as on the area of application and expected needs. The standard operating temperature of a magnetic bar is 80°C.
When the magnet is thin, the magnetic force lines are more compressed. Otherwise, when the magnet is thick, the force lines are longer and reach further.
For constructing the casings of magnetic separators - rollers, frequently stainless steel is used, especially types AISI 304, AISI 316, and AISI 316L.
In a saltwater environment, type AISI 316 steel is recommended thanks to its exceptional corrosion resistance.
Magnetic rollers are characterized by their specific arrangement of poles and their ability to attract magnetic particles directly onto their surface, in contrast to other separators that often use more complicated filtration systems.
Technical designations and terms pertaining to magnetic separators include amongst others magnet pitch, polarity, and magnetic induction, as well as the steel type applied.
Magnetic induction for a roller is determined using a teslameter or a gaussmeter with a flat Hall-effect probe, aiming to find the highest magnetic field value close to the magnetic pole. The result is checked in a value table - the lowest is N30. All designations below N27 or N25 indicate recycling that doesn't meet the standard - they are not suitable.
Neodymium magnetic bars offer many advantages, including a very strong magnetic field, the ability to capture even the tiniest metal particles, and durability. However, some of the downsides may involve higher cost compared to other types of magnets and the need for regular maintenance.
To properly maintain of neodymium magnetic rollers, it’s worth they should be regularly cleaned, avoiding temperatures above 80 degrees. The rollers feature waterproofing IP67, so if they are not sealed, the magnets inside can oxidize and weaken. Testing of the rollers is recommended be carried out every two years. Caution should be taken during use, as it’s possible getting pinched. If the protective tube is only 0.5 mm thick, it may wear out, which in turn could cause problems with the magnetic rod seal and product contamination. The effective range of the roller corresponds to its diameter: fi25mm gives an active range of about 25mm, while fi32 gives an active range of about 40mm.
A magnetic roller is a magnetic separator made from a neodymium magnet enclosed in a cylindrical stainless steel housing, used for separating ferromagnetic contaminants from raw materials. They are used in the food industry, recycling, and plastic processing, where metal separation is crucial.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose power over time - after about 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are exceptionally resistant to demagnetization caused by an external magnetic field,
  • Thanks to the shiny finish and nickel, gold, or silver coating, they have an aesthetic appearance,
  • They exhibit very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by hugely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming or adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in many variants of shapes or sizes, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Wide application in modern technologies – are used in HDD drives, electric motors, medical apparatus or various technologically advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a metal holder. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and simultaneously increases its overall strength,
  • They lose power at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the shape and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • They rust in a humid environment. For outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Health risk to health from tiny fragments of magnets pose a threat, if swallowed, which becomes significant in the aspect of protecting young children. It's also worth noting that miniscule components of these devices have the potential to be problematic in medical diagnosis when they are in the body.

Exercise Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets ever invented. Their strength can surprise you.

On our website, you can find information on how to use neodymium magnets. This will help you avoid injuries and prevent damage to the magnets.

Keep neodymium magnets as far away as possible from GPS and smartphones.

Neodymium magnets are a source of strong magnetic fields that cause interference with magnetometers and compasses used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Magnets will attract to each other, so remember not to allow them to pinch together without control or place your fingers in their path.

Neodymium magnets jump and clash mutually within a radius of several to almost 10 cm from each other.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Although magnets have demonstrated their effectiveness up to 80°C or 175°F, the temperature can vary depending on the type, shape, and intended use of the specific magnet.

Neodymium magnetic are delicate and can easily break as well as shatter.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by significant fragility. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel, but they are not as durable as steel. In the event of a collision between two magnets, there may be a scattering of fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is crucial in such a situation.

You should maintain neodymium magnets at a safe distance from the wallet, computer, and TV.

Neodymium magnets produce strong magnetic fields that can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, etc. devices. They can also destroy devices like video players, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Do not forget to keep neodymium magnets at a safe distance from these electronic devices.

Neodymium magnets should not be in the vicinity children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Be cautious and make sure no child plays with them. In the case of swallowing multiple magnets simultaneously, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls. In the worst case scenario, this can lead to death.

The magnet is coated with nickel - be careful if you have an allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

People with pacemakers are advised to avoid neodymium magnets.

In the case of neodymium magnets, there is a strong magnetic field. As a result, it interferes with the operation of a heart pacemaker. However, if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the device when it is in a magnetic field.

In order to illustrate why neodymium magnets are so dangerous, see the article - How dangerous are very powerful neodymium magnets?.
