The main mechanism of the magnetic separator is the use of neodymium magnets, placed in a construction made of stainless steel usually AISI304. Due to this, it is possible to effectively segregate ferromagnetic particles from different substances. A key aspect of its operation is the repulsion of N and S poles of neodymium magnets, which causes magnetic substances to be targeted. The thickness of the magnet and its structure pitch affect the range and strength of the separator's operation.
Generally speaking, magnetic separators serve to separate ferromagnetic particles. If the cans are made of ferromagnetic materials, a magnetic separator will be effective. However, if the cans are made of non-ferromagnetic materials, such as aluminum, the separator will not be able to separate them.
Yes, magnetic rollers find application in the food industry to remove metallic contaminants, for example iron fragments or iron dust. Our rollers are made from acid-resistant steel, EN 1.4301, intended for use in food.
Magnetic rollers, often called magnetic separators, are used in food production, metal separation as well as waste processing. They help in extracting iron dust during the process of separating metals from other wastes.
Our magnetic rollers consist of neodymium magnets anchored in a stainless steel tube cylinder of stainless steel with a wall thickness of 1mm.
Both ends of the magnetic bar will be with M8 threaded holes - 18 mm, allowing for easy installation in machines or magnetic filter drawers. A "blind" version is also possible in manual separators.
In terms of forces, magnetic bars differ in terms of magnetic force lines, flux density and the area of operation of the magnetic field. We produce them in two materials, N42 as well as N52.
Often it is believed that the greater the magnet's power, the more effective. Nevertheless, the value of the magnet's power depends on the height of the used magnet and the quality of the material [N42] or [N52], as well as on the area of use and specific needs. The standard operating temperature of a magnetic bar is 80°C.
If the magnet is thin, the magnetic force lines are more compressed. Otherwise, when the magnet is thick, the force lines will be extended and reach further.
For creating the casings of magnetic separators - rollers, usually stainless steel is utilized, particularly types AISI 304, AISI 316, and AISI 316L.
In a saltwater contact, type AISI 316 steel is highly recommended thanks to its outstanding corrosion resistance.
Magnetic bars are characterized by their unique configuration of poles and their ability to attract magnetic particles directly onto their surface, in contrast to other devices that may utilize more complicated filtration systems.
Technical designations and terms pertaining to magnetic separators include amongst others polarity, magnetic induction, magnet pitch, as well as the type of steel used.
Magnetic induction for a magnet on a roller is measured using a teslameter or a gaussmeter with a flat Hall-effect probe, seeking the highest magnetic field value near the magnetic pole. The outcome is verified in a value table - the lowest is N30. All designations less than N27 or N25 indicate recycling that doesn't meet the standard - they are not suitable.
Neodymium magnetic bars offer a range of benefits such as higher attracting power, longer lifespan, and effectiveness in separating fine metal particles. However, some of the downsides may involve the requirement for frequent cleaning, greater weight, and potential installation difficulties.
To properly maintain of neodymium magnetic rollers, it’s worth regularly cleaning them from contaminants, avoiding high temperatures above 80 degrees, and protecting them from moisture if the threads are not sealed – in ours, they are. The rollers feature waterproofing IP67, so if they are leaky, the magnets inside can rust and lose their power. Magnetic field measurements should be carried out every two years. Caution should be taken during use, as it’s possible getting pinched. If the protective tube is only 0.5 mm thick, it may wear out, which in turn could lead to problems with the magnetic rod seal and product contamination. The effective range of the roller is equal to its diameter: fi25mm gives an active range of about 25mm, while fi32 gives an active range of about 40mm.
Magnetic rollers are cylindrical neodymium magnets placed in a casing made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel, which are used to remove metal contaminants from bulk and granular materials. They are applied in industries such as food processing, ceramics, and recycling, where metal separation is crucial.

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their power (of the magnet). After about 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are highly resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic sources,
  • In other words, thanks to the shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element acquires an aesthetic appearance,
  • They possess very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Thanks to their high temperature resistance, they can operate (depending on the form) even at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • Thanks to the flexibility in shaping or the ability to adapt to specific requirements – neodymium magnets can be produced in a wide range of shapes and sizes, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Wide application in advanced technologically fields – are utilized in HDD drives, electric motors, medical equipment or very modern machines.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a metal holder. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts, and at the same time increases its overall strength,
  • High temperatures can reduce the power of neodymium magnets. Typically, after heating above 80°C, most of them experience a permanent reduction in strength (although it is dependent on the form and size). To prevent this, we offer special magnets marked with the symbol [AH], which are highly resistant to high temperatures. They can operate even at temperatures up to 230°C, making them an ideal solution for applications requiring high-temperature operation,
  • Due to their susceptibility to corrosion in a humid environment, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials when using them outdoors,
  • The use of a cover or a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited possibilities of manufacturing threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Possible danger arising from small pieces of magnets are risky, in case of ingestion, which is particularly important in the aspect of protecting young children. Additionally, tiny parts of these devices are able to hinder the diagnostic process in case of swallowing.

Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are highly flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

Magnets will attract to each other, so remember not to allow them to pinch together without control or place your fingers in their path.

If the joining of neodymium magnets is not controlled, then they may crumble and crack. Remember not to move them to each other or hold them firmly in hands at a distance less than 10 cm.

Neodymium magnets are among the most powerful magnets on Earth. The astonishing force they generate between each other can surprise you.

Make sure to review all the information we have provided. This will help you avoid harm to your body and damage to the magnets.

Neodymium magnets should not be in the vicinity children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Do not allow children to play with them. In the case of swallowing multiple magnets simultaneously, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls. In the worst case scenario, this can lead to death.

Make sure not to bring neodymium magnets close to the TV, wallet, and computer HDD.

Strong magnetic fields emitted by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other devices. They can also damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. Avoid placing neodymium magnets in close proximity to electronic devices.

Do not bring neodymium magnets close to GPS and smartphones.

Magnetic fields interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation for air and sea transport, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium magnets are not recommended for people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets produce strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a heart pacemaker. Even if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the entire device.

The magnet is coated with nickel. Therefore, exercise caution if you have an allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

Despite the fact that magnets have been found to maintain their efficacy up to temperatures of 80°C or 175°F, it's essential to consider that this threshold may fluctuate depending on the magnet's type, configuration, and intended usage.

Neodymium magnets are highly delicate, they easily fall apart as well as can crumble.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by significant fragility. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel surface, but they are not as hard as steel. In the event of a collision between two magnets, there may be a scattering of fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is crucial in such a situation.
