Cylindrical Neodymium Magnets min. MW 5x3 / N38 are magnets created of neodymium in a cylindrical shape. They are known for their very strong magnetic properties, which exceed traditional iron magnets. Thanks to their power, they are often employed in devices that require powerful holding. The typical temperature resistance of these magnets is 80°C, but for magnets in a cylindrical form, this temperature increases with the growth of the magnet. Moreover, various special coatings, such as nickel, gold, or chrome, are often applied to the surface of neodymium magnets to enhance their durability to corrosion. The shape of a cylinder is also one of the most popular among neodymium magnets. The magnet designated MW 5x3 / N38 and a magnetic force 0.83 kg weighs only 0.44 grams.
Cylindrical neodymium magnets, also known as Nd2Fe14B, are the strongest known material for magnet production. The technology of their production is complicated and includes melting special neodymium alloys along with other metals such as iron and boron. After appropriate processing, such as heat and mechanical treatment, the magnets become ready for use in varied applications, including electric motors, audio-video equipment, and in the automotive and aerospace industries.

Additionally, their use is not recommended in water, oil, or in an environment containing hydrogen, as they may forfeit their magnetic strength.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are prone to breaking as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a metal holder. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • High temperatures can reduce the strength of neodymium magnets. Typically, after heating above 80°C, most of them experience a permanent loss in strength (although it is dependent on the form and size). To prevent this, we offer special magnets marked with the symbol [AH], which are highly resistant to high temperatures. They can operate even at temperatures up to 230°C, making them an ideal solution for applications requiring high-temperature operation,
  • Due to their susceptibility to corrosion in a humid environment, we suggest using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials when using them outdoors,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Potential hazard arising from small pieces of magnets pose a threat, if swallowed, which becomes significant in the aspect of protecting young children. It's also worth noting that tiny parts of these magnets can hinder the diagnostic process when they are in the body.

Be Cautious with Neodymium Magnets

Neodymium magnetic are particularly fragile, resulting in shattering.

In the event of a collision between two neodymium magnets, it can result in them getting chipped. Despite being made of metal as well as coated with a shiny nickel plating, they are not as hard as steel. In the case of a collision between two magnets, there can be a scattering of small sharp metal fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is essential.

Neodymium magnets are over 10 times more powerful than ferrite magnets (the ones in speakers), and their strength can shock you.
