Cylindrical Neodymium Magnets i.e. MW 40x15 / N38 are magnets made of neodymium in a cylinder form. They are valued for their very strong magnetic properties, which exceed traditional ferrite magnets. Thanks to their strength, they are often used in products that need powerful holding. The typical temperature resistance of such magnets is 80°C, but for magnets in a cylindrical form, this temperature increases with the growth of the magnet. Additionally, various special coatings, such as nickel, gold, or chrome, are frequently applied to the surface of neodymium magnets to enhance their durability to corrosion. The shape of a cylinder is as well very popular among neodymium magnets. The magnet named MW 40x15 / N38 with a magnetic strength 33.18 kg has a weight of only 141.37 grams.
Cylindrical neodymium magnets, often referred to as Nd2Fe14B, are the strongest known material for magnet production. Their production process is complicated and includes sintering special neodymium alloys along with other metals such as iron and boron. After appropriate processing, such as heat and mechanical treatment, the magnets become ready for use in many applications, such as electric motors, audio-video equipment, and in the automotive and aerospace industries.
Moreover, even though neodymium is a component of the strongest magnets, they are prone to corrosion in humid environments. Therefore, they are coated with a thin layer of gold-nickel to increase their durability. It's worth noting that NdFeB neodymium magnets are about 13% lighter than SmCo magnets and, despite their power, easily break, which requires care during their handling. For this reason, any mechanical processing should be done before they are magnetized.

In terms of safety, there are many recommendations regarding the use of these magnets. It is advisable to avoid their use in acidic, basic, organic environments or where solvents are present, as well as in water or oil. Furthermore, they can damage data on magnetic cards and hard drives, although data deletion using a neodymium magnet is not guaranteed.
Regarding the purchase of cylindrical neodymium magnets, several enterprises offer such products. One of the suggested suppliers is our company Dhit, situated in Ożarów Mazowiecki, the address can be found directly in the contact tab. It is recommended to visit the site for the latest information and offers, and before visiting, please call.
Due to their strength, cylindrical neodymium magnets are very useful in many applications, they can also constitute certain dangers. Due to their strong magnetic power, they can attract metallic objects with uncontrolled force, which can lead to damaging skin or other materials, especially hands. Do not use neodymium magnets near equipment or data storage devices, such as credit cards, as they can damage these devices in terms of magnetic recording. Moreover, neodymium magnets are susceptible to corrosion in humid environments, therefore they are coated with a thin protective layer. Generally, although they are very useful, one should handle them with due caution.
Neodymium magnets, with the formula Nd2Fe14B, are at this time the very strong magnets on the market. They are produced through a complicated sintering process, which involves melting specific alloys of neodymium with additional metals and then forming and thermal processing. Their unmatched magnetic strength comes from the unique production technology and chemical composition.
In terms of properties in different environments, neodymium magnets are sensitive to corrosion, especially in humid conditions. Therefore, they are often covered with thin coatings, such as nickel, to protect them from external factors and prolong their durability. High temperatures exceeding 130°C can cause a deterioration of their magnetic properties, although there are specific types of neodymium magnets that can withstand temperatures up to 230°C.
As for dangers, it is important to avoid using neodymium magnets in acidic conditions, basic conditions, organic or solvent environments, unless they are adequately insulated. Additionally, their use is not recommended in wet conditions, oil, or in an environment containing hydrogen, as they may lose their magnetic properties.

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense strength, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose power over time - after approximately 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are highly resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic field,
  • In other words, thanks to the shiny nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an visually attractive appearance,
  • They have exceptionally high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Thanks to their high temperature resistance, they can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming and adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in a wide range of shapes and sizes, which amplifies their universality in usage.
  • Key role in the industry of new technologies – are used in HDD drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical devices and very modern machines.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts, and at the same time increases its overall strength,
  • They lose strength at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the shape and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • They rust in a humid environment - during outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Possible danger to health from tiny fragments of magnets can be dangerous, in case of ingestion, which is crucial in the context of child safety. Additionally, tiny parts of these magnets have the potential to complicate diagnosis in case of swallowing.

Handle Neodymium Magnets with Caution

Keep neodymium magnets away from GPS and smartphones.

Neodymium magnets generate strong magnetic fields that interfere with magnetometers and compasses used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Magnets made of neodymium are delicate as well as can easily crack as well as get damaged.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by considerable fragility. Neodymium magnetic are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel, but they are not as durable as steel. In the event of a collision between two magnets, there may be a scattering of fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is crucial in such a situation.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

While Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures, it's important to note that the extent of this effect can vary based on factors such as the magnet's material, shape, and intended application.

Neodymium Magnets can attract to each other, pinch the skin, and cause significant injuries.

Magnets may crack or crumble with uncontrolled joining to each other. Remember not to approach them to each other or hold them firmly in hands at a distance less than 10 cm.

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful, most remarkable magnets on the planet, and the surprising force between them can surprise you at first.

On our website, you can find information on how to use neodymium magnets. This will help you avoid injuries and prevent damage to the magnets.

Magnets are not toys, youngest should not play with them.

Not all neodymium magnets are toys, so do not let children play with them. In such a situation, surgery is necessary to remove them. In the worst case scenario, it can result in death.

Make sure not to bring neodymium magnets close to the TV, wallet, and computer HDD.

The strong magnetic field generated by neodymium magnets can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, or other devices. They can also damage devices like video players, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Do not forget to keep neodymium magnets at a safe distance from these electronic devices.

Neodymium magnets are not recommended for people with pacemakers.

In the case of neodymium magnets, there is a strong magnetic field. As a result, it interferes with the operation of a heart pacemaker. However, if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the device when it is in a magnetic field.

The magnet is coated with nickel. Therefore, exercise caution if you have an allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.
