Neodymium Cylindrical Magnets i.e. MW 2x10 / N38 are magnets made of neodymium in a cylinder form. They are known for their very strong magnetic properties, which exceed traditional iron magnets. Because of their power, they are frequently used in products that need strong adhesion. The typical temperature resistance of these magnets is 80 degrees C, but for magnets in a cylindrical form, this temperature rises with the growth of the magnet. Additionally, various special coatings, such as nickel, gold, or chrome, are often applied to the surface of neodymium magnets to enhance their durability to corrosion. The shape of a cylinder is as well one of the most popular among neodymium magnets. The magnet designated MW 2x10 / N38 with a magnetic strength 1.11 kg has a weight of only 0.24 grams.
Cylindrical neodymium magnets, often referred to as Nd2Fe14B, represent the strongest known material for magnet production. Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts, and at the same time increases its overall strength,
  • Magnets lose their power due to exposure to high temperatures. In most cases, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, these magnets experience permanent reduction in strength (although it is worth noting that this is dependent on the form and size of the magnet). To avoid this problem, we offer special magnets marked with the [AH] symbol, which exhibit high temperature resistance. They can operate even at temperatures as high as 230°C or more,
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore, when using them outdoors, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Potential hazard arising from small pieces of magnets can be dangerous, in case of ingestion, which is crucial in the context of children's health. It's also worth noting that tiny parts of these magnets are able to be problematic in medical diagnosis in case of swallowing.

Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Keep neodymium magnets away from the wallet, computer, and TV.

The strong magnetic field generated by neodymium magnets can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, or other devices. They can also destroy videos, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Do not forget to keep neodymium magnets away from these electronic devices.

Neodymium magnets can attract to each other, pinch the skin, and cause significant swellings.

If you have a finger between or on the path of attracting magnets, there may be a severe cut or even a fracture.

Under no circumstances should neodymium magnets be brought close to GPS and smartphones.

Neodymium magnets are a source of intense magnetic fields that cause interference with magnetometers and compasses used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium magnetic are extremely fragile, leading to their cracking.

Neodymium magnets are fragile as well as will break if allowed to collide with each other, even from a distance of a few centimeters. They are coated with a shiny nickel plating similar to steel, but they are not as hard. At the moment of collision between the magnets, tiny sharp metal fragments can be propelled in various directions at high speed. Eye protection is recommended.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.
