Cylindrical Neodymium Magnets i.e. MW 15x10 / N38 are magnets made of neodymium in a cylindrical shape. They are known for their very strong magnetic properties, which exceed ordinary ferrite magnets. Thanks to their power, they are frequently employed in products that need strong adhesion. The typical temperature resistance of these magnets is 80°C, but for cylindrical magnets, this temperature rises with the growth of the magnet. Moreover, various special coatings, such as nickel, gold, or chrome, are often applied to the surface of neodymium magnets to enhance their durability to corrosion. The shape of a cylinder is also very popular among neodymium magnets. The magnet with the designation MW 15x10 / N38 with a magnetic force ${capacity} kg weighs only ${weight} grams.
Cylindrical neodymium magnets, also known as Nd2Fe14B, are the strongest known material for magnet production. The technology of their production requires a specialized approach and includes sintering special neodymium alloys with other metals such as iron and boron. After appropriate processing, such as heat and mechanical treatment, the magnets become ready for use in many applications, including electric motors, audio-video equipment, and in the automotive and aerospace industries.
Moreover, even though neodymium is a component of the strongest magnets, they are susceptible to corrosion in humid environments. For this reason, they are coated with a thin layer of nickel to increase their durability. It's worth noting that NdFeB neodymium magnets are about 13% lighter than SmCo magnets and, despite their power, easily break, which requires special caution during their handling. Therefore, any mechanical processing should be done before they are magnetized.

In terms of safety, there are several recommendations regarding the use of these magnets. They should not be used in acidic, basic, organic environments or where solvents are present, as well as in water or oil. Additionally, they can damage data on magnetic cards and hard drives, although data deletion using a neodymium magnet is not always certain.
In terms of purchasing of cylindrical neodymium magnets, many companies offer such products. One of the suggested suppliers is our company Dhit, located in Ożarów Mazowiecki, the address can be found directly in the contact tab. It is recommended to check the website for the latest information as well as offers, and before visiting, please call.
Due to their power, cylindrical neodymium magnets are very practical in various applications, they can also pose certain risk. Due to their strong magnetic power, they can pull metallic objects with great force, which can lead to damaging skin and other surfaces, especially fingers. Do not use neodymium magnets near equipment or data storage devices, such as credit cards, as they can destroy these devices in terms of magnetic recording. Furthermore, neodymium magnets are susceptible to corrosion in humid environments, thus they are coated with a thin e.g., nickel layer. In short, although they are handy, they should be handled carefully.
Neodymium magnets, with the formula Nd2Fe14B, are at this time the very strong magnets on the market. They are produced through a advanced sintering process, which involves melting special alloys of neodymium with other metals and then forming and heat treating. Their amazing magnetic strength comes from the unique production technology and chemical structure.
In terms of properties in different environments, neodymium magnets are sensitive to corrosion, especially in conditions of high humidity. Therefore, they are often coated with thin coatings, such as gold, to shield them from environmental factors and prolong their durability. High temperatures exceeding 130°C can cause a loss of their magnetic strength, although there are particular types of neodymium magnets that can withstand temperatures up to 230°C.
As for risks, it is important to avoid using neodymium magnets in acidic conditions, basic conditions, organic or solvent environments, unless they are insulated. Additionally, their use is not recommended in water, oil, or in an atmosphere containing hydrogen, as they may forfeit their magnetic strength.

Compilation of suggested goods

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their power (of the magnet). After about 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are highly resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic sources,
  • In other words, thanks to the glossy nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They exhibit extremely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Thanks to their high temperature resistance, they can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • The ability for precise shaping or customization to specific needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in a wide range of shapes and sizes, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Significant importance in advanced technologically fields – find application in HDD drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical equipment and various technologically advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are prone to breaking as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a metal holder. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • Magnets lose their power due to exposure to high temperatures. In most cases, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, these magnets experience permanent loss in strength (although it is worth noting that this is dependent on the shape and size of the magnet). To avoid this problem, we offer special magnets marked with the [AH] symbol, which exhibit high temperature resistance. They can operate even at temperatures as high as 230°C or more,
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore, when using them outdoors, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Potential hazard associated with microscopic parts of magnets are risky, if swallowed, which is crucial in the aspect of protecting young children. Additionally, tiny parts of these products can hinder the diagnostic process after entering the body.

Precautions

You should keep neodymium magnets at a safe distance from the wallet, computer, and TV.

The strong magnetic field generated by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, or other devices. They can also damage devices like video players, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Remember not to place neodymium magnets close to these electronic devices.

Neodymium magnets should not be near people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate strong magnetic fields. As a result, they interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

Neodymium magnets are extremely delicate, they easily fall apart as well as can crumble.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by considerable fragility. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel surface, but they are not as hard as steel. In the event of a collision between two magnets, there may be a scattering of fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is crucial in such a situation.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

In certain circumstances, Neodymium magnets can lose their magnetism when subjected to high temperatures.

Neodymium magnets are primarily characterized by their significant internal force. They attract to each other, and any object that comes in their way will be affected.

Magnets will jump and clash together within a distance of several to almost 10 cm from each other.

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets ever invented. Their strength can shock you.

On our website, you can find information on how to use neodymium magnets. This will help you avoid injuries and prevent damage to the magnets.

Magnets should not be treated as toys. Therefore, it is not recommended for children to have access to them.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Be cautious and make sure no child plays with them. In the case of swallowing multiple magnets simultaneously, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls. In the worst case scenario, this can lead to death.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Never bring neodymium magnets close to a phone and GPS.

Neodymium magnets are a source of strong magnetic fields that cause interference with magnetometers and compasses used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

The magnet coating is made of nickel, so be cautious if you have an allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

To raise awareness of why neodymium magnets are so dangerous, see the article titled How dangerous are strong neodymium magnets?.
