Cylindrical Neodymium Magnets min. MW 12x1.5 / N38 are magnets made of neodymium in a cylindrical shape. They are known for their very strong magnetic properties, which exceed ordinary ferrite magnets. Thanks to their strength, they are often employed in devices that require powerful holding. The typical temperature resistance of such magnets is 80°C, but for magnets in a cylindrical form, this temperature increases with their height. Moreover, various special coatings, such as nickel, gold, or chrome, are frequently applied to the surface of neodymium magnets to enhance their durability to corrosion. The shape of a cylinder is as well one of the most popular among neodymium magnets. The magnet with the designation MW 12x1.5 / N38 and a magnetic force 1.00 kg has a weight of only 0.92 grams.
Cylindrical neodymium magnets, also known as Nd2Fe14B, represent the strongest known material for magnet production. Their production process requires a specialized approach and includes sintering special neodymium alloys with other metals such as iron and boron. After a series of processes, such as heat and mechanical treatment, the magnets are made available for use in many applications, such as electric motors, audio-video equipment, and in the automotive and aerospace industries.
Moreover, even though neodymium is a component of the strongest magnets, they are prone to corrosion in humid environments. For this reason, they are coated with a thin layer of epoxy to increase their durability. Interestingly that NdFeB neodymium magnets are about 13% lighter than SmCo magnets and, despite their power, easily break, which requires special caution during their handling. For this reason, any mechanical processing should be done before they are magnetized.

In terms of safety, there are many recommendations regarding the use of these magnets. They should not be used in acidic, basic, organic environments or in solvents, and also in water or oil. Additionally, they can damage data on magnetic cards and hard drives, although data deletion using a neodymium magnet is not always certain.
In terms of purchasing of cylindrical neodymium magnets, many companies offer such products. One of the recommended suppliers is our company Dhit, located in Ożarów Mazowiecki, the address can be found directly in the contact tab. It is recommended to check the site for the current information and promotions, and before visiting, we recommend calling.
Due to their strength, cylindrical neodymium magnets are very practical in various applications, they can also constitute certain dangers. Due to their strong magnetic power, they can attract metallic objects with great force, which can lead to crushing skin and other materials, especially hands. Do not use neodymium magnets near electronic devices or data storage devices, such as credit cards, as they can destroy these devices in terms of magnetic recording. Furthermore, neodymium magnets are prone to corrosion in humid environments, therefore they are coated with a thin protective layer. Generally, although they are handy, one should handle them carefully.
Neodymium magnets, with the formula neodymium-iron-boron, are currently the strongest available magnets on the market. They are produced through a complicated sintering process, which involves fusing specific alloys of neodymium with additional metals and then shaping and thermal processing. Their amazing magnetic strength comes from the unique production technology and chemical composition.
In terms of properties in different environments, neodymium magnets are sensitive to corrosion, especially in conditions of high humidity. Therefore, they are often coated with thin coatings, such as nickel, to protect them from environmental factors and extend their lifespan. High temperatures exceeding 130°C can cause a deterioration of their magnetic strength, although there are specific types of neodymium magnets that can withstand temperatures up to 230°C.
As for dangers, it is important to avoid using neodymium magnets in acidic environments, basic environments, organic or solvent environments, unless they are adequately insulated. Additionally, their use is not recommended in wet conditions, oil, or in an atmosphere containing hydrogen, as they may lose their magnetic properties.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose power over time - after 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They protect against demagnetization caused by external magnetic sources very well,
  • Thanks to the shiny finish and nickel, gold, or silver coating, they have an aesthetic appearance,
  • They have very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by hugely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the form) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • The ability for precise shaping or customization to specific needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in many variants of shapes and sizes, which expands the range of their possible uses.
  • Key role in modern technologies – are used in computer drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical equipment and various technologically advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts, and at the same time increases its overall strength,
  • They lose strength at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the form and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • Due to their susceptibility to corrosion in a humid environment, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials when using them outdoors,
  • The use of a cover or a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited possibilities of manufacturing threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Possible danger arising from small pieces of magnets are risky, if swallowed, which becomes significant in the context of child safety. Furthermore, miniscule components of these products are able to hinder the diagnostic process after entering the body.

Handle with Care: Neodymium Magnets

People with pacemakers are advised to avoid neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

Under no circumstances should neodymium magnets be placed near a computer HDD, TV, and wallet.

Strong magnetic fields emitted by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other devices. In addition, they can damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. You should especially avoid placing neodymium magnets near electronic devices.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Avoid bringing neodymium magnets close to a phone or GPS.

Neodymium magnets produce intense magnetic fields that interfere with magnetometers and compasses used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium Magnets can attract to each other due to their immense internal force, causing the skin and other body parts to get pinched and resulting in significant swellings.

In the situation of placing a finger in the path of a neodymium magnet, in such a case, a cut or even a fracture may occur.

Neodymium magnetic are fragile and can easily crack as well as shatter.

Neodymium magnetic are fragile and will crack if allowed to collide with each other, even from a distance of a few centimeters. Despite being made of metal as well as coated with a shiny nickel plating, they are not as hard as steel. In the case of a collision between two magnets, there can be a scattering of small sharp metal fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is essential.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

In certain circumstances, Neodymium magnets may experience demagnetization when subjected to high temperatures.

The magnet coating contains nickel, so be cautious if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Comparing neodymium magnets to ferrite magnets (found in speakers), they are 10 times more powerful, and their power can shock you.

Make sure to review all the information we have provided. This will help you avoid harm to your body and damage to the magnets.

Maintain neodymium magnets far from children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. You cannot allow them to become toys for children. In the case of small magnets, they can be swallowed and cause choking. In such cases, the only solution is to undergo surgery to remove the magnets, and otherwise, it can even lead to death.
