Physical properties of sintered neodymium magnets Nd2Fe14B
Moreover, although neodymium is a component of the strongest magnets, they are prone to corrosion in humid environments. Therefore, they are coated with a coating of nickel to increase their durability. Interestingly that NdFeB neodymium magnets are about 13% lighter than SmCo magnets and, despite their power, easily break, which requires care during their handling. For this reason, any mechanical processing should be done before they are magnetized.
In terms of safety, there are many recommendations regarding the use of these magnets. They should not be used in acidic, basic, organic environments or in solvents, and also in water or oil. Furthermore, they can damage data on magnetic cards and hard drives, although data deletion using a neodymium magnet is not guaranteed.
In terms of properties in different environments, neodymium magnets are sensitive to corrosion, especially in humid conditions. Therefore, they are often coated with thin coatings, such as silver, to preserve them from external factors and extend their lifespan. High temperatures exceeding 130°C can result in a reduction of their magnetic strength, although there are particular types of neodymium magnets that can withstand temperatures up to 230°C.
As for dangers, it is important to avoid using neodymium magnets in acidic conditions, basic conditions, organic or solvent environments, unless they are adequately insulated. Additionally, their use is not recommended in wet conditions, oil, or in an atmosphere containing hydrogen, as they may forfeit their magnetic properties.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.
In addition to immense strength, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:
- They do not lose power over time. After approximately 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
- They are highly resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic sources,
- By applying a shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
- They have very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
- By using an appropriate combination of materials, they can achieve significant thermal resistance, allowing them to operate at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
- Due to the option of accurate forming and adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in various forms and dimensions, which amplifies their universality in usage.
- Wide application in the industry of new technologies – are utilized in hard drives, electric motors, medical equipment and other modern machines.
Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:
- They can break when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and at the same time increases its overall strength,
- They lose power at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the shape and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
- They rust in a humid environment. For outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
- The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
- Possible danger arising from small pieces of magnets pose a threat, in case of ingestion, which becomes significant in the context of child safety. Additionally, small elements of these magnets can be problematic in medical diagnosis after entering the body.
Precautions with Neodymium Magnets
Neodymium magnets can attract to each other, pinch the skin, and cause significant swellings.
If the joining of neodymium magnets is not controlled, at that time they may crumble and crack. You can't approach them to each other. At a distance less than 10 cm you should have them very firmly.
It is important to keep neodymium magnets away from children.
Neodymium magnets are not toys. You cannot allow them to become toys for children. In such a situation, surgery is necessary to remove them. In the worst case scenario, it can result in death.
Neodymium magnets are extremely delicate, they easily break and can crumble.
Neodymium magnets are fragile and will crack if allowed to collide with each other, even from a distance of a few centimeters. Despite being made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel plating, they are not as hard as steel. At the moment of connection between the magnets, tiny sharp metal pieces can be propelled in various directions at high speed. Eye protection is recommended.
Make sure not to bring neodymium magnets close to the TV, wallet, and computer HDD.
The strong magnetic field generated by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, or other devices. They can also destroy videos, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Remember not to place neodymium magnets close to these electronic devices.
Neodymium magnets should not be near people with pacemakers.
Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.
Keep neodymium magnets as far away as possible from GPS and smartphones.
Magnetic fields interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation for air and sea transport, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.
Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.
Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.
Neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets ever invented. Their power can shock you.
To use magnets properly, it is best to familiarize yourself with our information beforehand. This will help you avoid significant harm to your body and the magnets themselves.
Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.
Under specific conditions, Neodymium magnets may experience demagnetization when subjected to high temperatures.
Avoid contact with neodymium magnets if you have a nickel allergy.
Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.
