Neodymium disc magnets provide a range of advantages compared to other magnet shapes, which make them the best choice for various uses:
Contact Surface: Thanks to their flat shape, disc magnets guarantee a larger contact surface with other elements, which can be beneficial in applications requiring a stronger magnetic connection.
Applications in Technology: These magnets are often used in different devices, such as sensors, stepper motors, or speakers, where a thin and wide shape is essential for their operation.
Mounting: This form's flat shape makes mounting, especially when it's necessary to adhere the magnet to a surface.
Design Flexibility: The disc shape of the magnets gives designers with significant flexibility in arranging them in constructions, which can sometimes be more difficult with magnets of other shapes.
Stability: In certain applications, the flat base of a disc magnet may provide better stability, minimizing the risk of shifting or rotating. It should be noted that the optimal shape of a magnet is dependent on the specific application and requirements. In some cases, other shapes, like cylindrical or spherical, might be more suitable.

Compilation of suggested goods

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense strength, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their strength (of the magnet). After about 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They protect against demagnetization caused by external magnetic field very well,
  • In other words, thanks to the glossy nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They possess very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Thanks to their high temperature resistance, they can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming and adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in many variants of shapes or sizes, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Wide application in modern technologies – are utilized in computer drives, electric motors, medical apparatus or various technologically advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a steel housing. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and simultaneously increases its overall strength,
  • Magnets lose their power due to exposure to high temperatures. In most cases, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, these magnets experience permanent reduction in strength (although it is worth noting that this is dependent on the shape and size of the magnet). To avoid this problem, we offer special magnets marked with the [AH] symbol, which exhibit high temperature resistance. They can operate even at temperatures as high as 230°C or more,
  • They rust in a humid environment - during outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • The use of a cover or a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited possibilities of manufacturing threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Potential hazard associated with microscopic parts of magnets can be dangerous, if swallowed, which becomes significant in the context of children's health. It's also worth noting that tiny parts of these magnets are able to be problematic in medical diagnosis after entering the body.

Handle Neodymium Magnets Carefully

It is crucial not to allow the magnets to pinch together uncontrollably or place your fingers in their path as they attract to each other.

If have a finger between or on the path of attracting magnets, there may be a serious cut or even a fracture.

Neodymium magnets should not be in the vicinity children.

Not all neodymium magnets are toys, so do not let children play with them. In the case of small magnets, they can be swallowed and cause choking. In such cases, the only solution is to undergo surgery to remove the magnets, and otherwise, it can even lead to death.

Neodymium magnets are not recommended for people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This happens because such devices have a function to deactivate them in a magnetic field.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are highly flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Comparing neodymium magnets to ferrite magnets (found in speakers), they are 10 times stronger, and their power can shock you.

Read the information on our website on how to properly utilize neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body and unintentional disruption to the magnets.

Neodymium magnets are extremely fragile, they easily crack as well as can crumble.

Magnets made of neodymium are fragile as well as will shatter if allowed to collide with each other, even from a distance of a few centimeters. Despite being made of metal as well as coated with a shiny nickel plating, they are not as hard as steel. At the moment of connection between the magnets, tiny sharp metal pieces can be propelled in various directions at high speed. Eye protection is recommended.

You should maintain neodymium magnets at a safe distance from the wallet, computer, and TV.

Strong magnetic fields emitted by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other devices. In addition, they can damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. Avoid placing neodymium magnets in close proximity to electronic devices.

Keep neodymium magnets away from GPS and smartphones.

Magnetic fields can interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in aviation and maritime navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices. There are neodymium magnets in every smartphone, for example, in the microphone and speakers.

Avoid contact with neodymium magnets if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

Although magnets are generally resilient, their ability to retain their magnetic strength can be influenced by factors like the type of material used, the magnet's shape, and the intended purpose for which it is employed.

So that know how powerful neodymium magnets are and why they are so dangerous, see the article - Dangerous powerful neodymium magnets.
