Neodymium disc magnets offer a range of advantages compared to other magnet shapes, which make the ideal choice for various uses:
Contact Surface: Thanks to their flat shape, disc magnets provide a significant contact surface with other elements, which is beneficial in applications needing a stronger magnetic connection.
Applications in Technology: The magnets are often employed in different devices, like sensors, stepper motors, or speakers, where a flat shape is important for their operation.
Mounting: This form's flat shape makes mounting, particularly when you need to adhere the magnet to a surface.
Design Flexibility: The flat shape of the magnets allows designers with greater flexibility in placing them in constructions, which can be more difficult with magnets of other shapes.
Stability: In some applications, the flat base of a disc magnet may provide better stability, reducing the risk of sliding or rotating. It should be noted that the optimal shape of a magnet is dependent on the specific application and requirements. In certain cases, other shapes, like cylindrical or spherical, may be a better choice.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose strength over time - after 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They protect against demagnetization caused by external magnetic field extremely well,
  • By applying a shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They have very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the form) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming or adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in a wide range of shapes and sizes, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Wide application in modern technologies – are used in HDD drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical equipment and other highly developed apparatuses.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are prone to breaking as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a steel housing. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and simultaneously increases its overall strength,
  • High temperatures can reduce the power of neodymium magnets. Typically, after heating above 80°C, most of them experience a permanent loss in strength (although it is dependent on the form and size). To prevent this, we offer special magnets marked with the symbol [AH], which are highly resistant to high temperatures. They can operate even at temperatures up to 230°C, making them an ideal solution for applications requiring high-temperature operation,
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore, when using them outdoors, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Possible danger to health from tiny fragments of magnets pose a threat, if swallowed, which is particularly important in the context of children's health. Furthermore, small elements of these devices are able to complicate diagnosis when they are in the body.

Be Cautious with Neodymium Magnets

Keep neodymium magnets away from people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate strong magnetic fields. As a result, they interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This happens because such devices have a function to deactivate them in a magnetic field.

Neodymium magnets can attract to each other due to their immense internal force, causing the skin and other body parts to get pinched and resulting in significant injuries.

Magnets attract each other within a distance of several to about 10 cm from each other. Don't put your fingers in the path of magnet attraction, because a significant injury may occur. Magnets, depending on their size, are able even cut off a finger or alternatively there can be a serious pressure or even a fracture.

Neodymium magnets are delicate as well as can easily break as well as get damaged.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by considerable fragility. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel surface, but they are not as hard as steel. In the event of a collision between two magnets, there may be a scattering of fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is crucial in such a situation.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Despite the general resilience of magnets, their ability to maintain their magnetic potency can be influenced by factors like the type of material used, the magnet's shape, and the intended purpose for which it is employed.

Under no circumstances should neodymium magnets be brought close to GPS and smartphones.

Intense magnetic fields generated by neodymium magnets interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Keep neodymium magnets away from TV, wallet, and computer HDD.

The strong magnetic field generated by neodymium magnets can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, etc. devices. They can also damage videos, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Do not forget to keep neodymium magnets at a safe distance from these electronic devices.

Neodymium magnets should not be around children.

Remember that neodymium magnets are not toys. Do not allow children to play with them. They can be a significant choking hazard. If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls, causing significant injuries, and even death.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are highly flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets ever created, and their strength can shock you.

Read the information on our website on how to properly utilize neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body and unintentional disruption to the magnets.

Avoid contact with neodymium magnets if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

To show why neodymium magnets are so dangerous, see the article - How dangerous are strong neodymium magnets?.
