Neodymium disc magnets provide a range of advantages in relation to other magnet shapes, which cause them to be the best choice for various uses:
Contact Surface: Due to their flat shape, disc magnets guarantee a significant contact surface with adjoining parts, which is beneficial in applications needing a stronger magnetic connection.
Applications in Technology: These magnets are often utilized in various devices, such as sensors, stepper motors, or speakers, where a thin and wide shape is important for their operation.
Mounting: This form's flat shape facilitates mounting, especially when it's necessary to adhere the magnet to another surface.
Design Flexibility: The disc shape of the magnets provides designers with significant flexibility in placing them in devices, which can sometimes be more difficult with magnets of other shapes.
Stability: In some applications, the flat base of a disc magnet may provide better stability, reducing the risk of shifting or rotating. However, it's important to remember that the optimal shape of a magnet depends on the specific application and requirements. In some cases, other shapes, such as cylindrical or spherical, might be more suitable.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their strength (of the magnet). After about 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are exceptionally resistant to demagnetization caused by an external magnetic field,
  • Thanks to the shiny finish and nickel, gold, or silver coating, they have an aesthetic appearance,
  • They have exceptionally high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by hugely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the form) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • Thanks to the flexibility in shaping and the ability to adapt to specific requirements – neodymium magnets can be produced in various forms and dimensions, which amplifies their universality in usage.
  • Wide application in advanced technologically fields – are utilized in hard drives, electric motors, medical devices or various technologically advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts, and at the same time increases its overall strength,
  • They lose strength at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the shape and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore, when using them outdoors, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Health risk to health from tiny fragments of magnets are risky, in case of ingestion, which is particularly important in the context of children's health. Additionally, small elements of these devices are able to hinder the diagnostic process after entering the body.

Precautions

Magnets are not toys, children should not play with them.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Be cautious and make sure no child plays with them. Small magnets can pose a serious choking hazard. If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls, causing significant injuries, and even death.

Make sure not to bring neodymium magnets close to the TV, wallet, and computer HDD.

Neodymium magnets generate intense magnetic fields that can damage magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, etc. devices. They can also damage devices like video players, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Remember not to place neodymium magnets close to these electronic devices.

If you have a nickel allergy, avoid contact with neodymium magnets.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets are particularly fragile, which leads to damage.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by considerable fragility. Neodymium magnetic are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel, but they are not as durable as steel. In the event of a collision between two magnets, there may be a scattering of fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is crucial in such a situation.

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets ever invented. Their power can surprise you.

Please review the information on how to handle neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body, as well as prevent unintentional damage to the magnets.

It is crucial not to allow the magnets to pinch together uncontrollably or place your fingers in their path as they attract to each other.

Neodymium magnets jump and touch each other mutually within a radius of several to around 10 cm from each other.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are highly flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

People with pacemakers are advised to avoid neodymium magnets.

In the case of neodymium magnets, there is a strong magnetic field. As a result, it interferes with the operation of a heart pacemaker. However, if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the device when it is in a magnetic field.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Although magnets are generally resilient, their ability to retain their magnetic strength can be influenced by factors like the type of material used, the magnet's shape, and the intended purpose for which it is employed.

Keep neodymium magnets away from GPS and smartphones.

Strong fields generated by neodymium magnets interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

To raise awareness of why neodymium magnets are so dangerous, see the article titled How very dangerous are powerful neodymium magnets?.
