Neodymium disc magnets provide a range of advantages in relation to other magnet shapes, which make the ideal choice for various uses:
Contact Surface: Due to their flat shape, disc magnets provide a larger contact surface with adjoining parts, which is beneficial in applications needing a stronger magnetic connection.
Applications in Technology: They are often utilized in various devices, such as sensors, stepper motors, or speakers, where a flat shape is important for their operation.
Mounting: This form's flat shape makes mounting, especially when there's a need to adhere the magnet to a surface.
Design Flexibility: The flat shape of the magnets gives designers with greater flexibility in placing them in devices, which can sometimes be more difficult with magnets of more complex shapes.
Stability: In certain applications, the flat base of a disc magnet can offer better stability, minimizing the risk of sliding or rotating. Nevertheless, one should bear in mind that the optimal shape of a magnet depends on the specific project and requirements. In some cases, other shapes, like cylindrical or spherical, may be more suitable.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose strength over time - after approximately 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are exceptionally resistant to demagnetization caused by an external magnetic field,
  • In other words, thanks to the shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element acquires an aesthetic appearance,
  • They possess very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • The ability for precise shaping or customization to specific needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in various forms and dimensions, which amplifies their universality in usage.
  • Key role in modern technologies – are used in computer drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical devices and very advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are prone to breaking as they are fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and simultaneously increases its overall strength,
  • They lose power at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the form and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • Due to their susceptibility to corrosion in a humid environment, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials when using them outdoors,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Health risk to health from tiny fragments of magnets are risky, in case of ingestion, which is crucial in the aspect of protecting young children. It's also worth noting that tiny parts of these products are able to be problematic in medical diagnosis in case of swallowing.

Exercise Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

In certain circumstances, Neodymium magnets may experience demagnetization when subjected to high temperatures.

Neodymium magnets are not recommended for people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

Neodymium magnets should not be around children.

Remember that neodymium magnets are not toys. Do not allow children to play with them. Small magnets can pose a serious choking hazard. If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls, causing significant injuries, and even death.

The magnet coating is made of nickel, so be cautious if you have an allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets are among the strongest magnets on Earth. The astonishing force they generate between each other can surprise you.

Read the information on our website on how to properly utilize neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body and unintentional damage to the magnets.

Never bring neodymium magnets close to a phone and GPS.

Neodymium magnets are a source of strong magnetic fields that cause interference with magnetometers and compasses used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Make sure not to bring neodymium magnets close to the TV, wallet, and computer HDD.

Strong magnetic fields emitted by neodymium magnets can destroy magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other devices. In addition, they can damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. You should especially avoid placing neodymium magnets near electronic devices.

Neodymium magnets are primarily characterized by their significant internal force. They attract to each other, and any object that comes in their way will be affected.

In the case of placing a finger in the path of a neodymium magnet, in that situation, a cut or a fracture may occur.

Magnets made of neodymium are known for being fragile, which can cause them to shatter.

Magnets made of neodymium are delicate as well as will crack if allowed to collide with each other, even from a distance of a few centimeters. Despite being made of metal as well as coated with a shiny nickel plating, they are not as hard as steel. In the case of a collision between two magnets, there can be a scattering of small sharp metal fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is essential.
