Neodymium disc magnets present a range of advantages in relation to other magnet shapes, which make them the best choice for various uses:
Contact Surface: Thanks to their flat shape, disc magnets guarantee a significant contact surface with other elements, which can be beneficial in applications needing a stronger magnetic connection.
Applications in Technology: These magnets are often employed in various devices, such as sensors, stepper motors, or speakers, where a flat shape is crucial for their operation.
Mounting: The flat form's flat shape facilitates mounting, especially when there's a need to adhere the magnet to a surface.
Design Flexibility: The flat shape of the magnets allows designers with significant flexibility in arranging them in constructions, which can sometimes be more difficult with magnets of more complex shapes.
Stability: In certain applications, the flat base of a disc magnet can provide better stability, reducing the risk of sliding or rotating. However, it's important to remember that the optimal shape of a magnet is dependent on the particular use and requirements. In some cases, other shapes, like cylindrical or spherical, might be a better choice.

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense strength, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their strength (of the magnet). After approximately 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They protect against demagnetization caused by external magnetic sources extremely well,
  • In other words, thanks to the shiny nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They exhibit extremely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by hugely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • Thanks to the flexibility in shaping or the ability to adapt to specific requirements – neodymium magnets can be produced in many variants of shapes or sizes, which expands the range of their possible uses.
  • Significant importance in the industry of new technologies – are utilized in hard drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical apparatus or other highly developed apparatuses.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and simultaneously increases its overall strength,
  • High temperatures can reduce the strength of neodymium magnets. Typically, after heating above 80°C, most of them experience a permanent reduction in strength (although it is dependent on the form and size). To prevent this, we offer special magnets marked with the symbol [AH], which are highly resistant to high temperatures. They can operate even at temperatures up to 230°C, making them an ideal solution for applications requiring high-temperature operation,
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore, when using them outdoors, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Possible danger to health from tiny fragments of magnets are risky, when accidentally ingested, which becomes significant in the aspect of protecting young children. Furthermore, small elements of these magnets are able to be problematic in medical diagnosis after entering the body.

Safety Precautions

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are highly flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

Magnets will attract to each other, so remember not to allow them to pinch together without control or place your fingers in their path.

Magnets will attract each other within a distance of several to around 10 cm from each other. Remember not to insert fingers between magnets or alternatively in their path when they attract. Magnets, depending on their size, can even cut off a finger or there can be a significant pressure or even a fracture.

It is important to maintain neodymium magnets out of reach from youngest children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Do not allow children to play with them. In the case of swallowing multiple magnets simultaneously, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls. In the worst case scenario, this can lead to death.

Keep neodymium magnets away from the wallet, computer, and TV.

Strong fields generated by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other similar devices. In addition, they can damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. You should especially avoid placing neodymium magnets near electronic devices.

Keep neodymium magnets as far away as possible from GPS and smartphones.

Strong fields generated by neodymium magnets interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets ever invented. Their power can shock you.

Familiarize yourself with our information to properly handle these magnets and avoid significant swellings to your body and prevent damage to the magnets.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

While Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures, it's important to note that the extent of this effect can vary based on factors such as the magnet's material, shape, and intended application.

The magnet coating contains nickel, so be cautious if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets are incredibly fragile, they easily break and can become damaged.

Neodymium magnetic are extremely fragile, and by joining them in an uncontrolled manner, they will crack. Magnets made of neodymium are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel, but they are not as durable as steel. In the event of a collision between two magnets, there may be a scattering of fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is crucial in such a situation.

Neodymium magnets are not recommended for people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate strong magnetic fields. As a result, they interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.
