Neodymium disc magnets offer a range of advantages compared to other magnet shapes, which make the best choice for many applications:
Contact Surface: Due to their flat shape, disc magnets provide a significant contact surface with other elements, which is beneficial in applications needing a stronger magnetic connection.
Applications in Technology: The magnets are often employed in many devices, such as sensors, stepper motors, or speakers, where a thin and wide shape is important for their operation.
Mounting: This form's flat shape facilitates mounting, particularly when there's a need to adhere the magnet to a surface.
Design Flexibility: The disc shape of the magnets gives designers with significant flexibility in placing them in devices, which can be more difficult with magnets of other shapes.
Stability: In some applications, the flat base of a disc magnet may offer better stability, reducing the risk of sliding or rotating. It should be noted that the optimal shape of a magnet depends on the specific application and requirements. In some cases, other shapes, like cylindrical or spherical, might be a better choice.

Product suggestions

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their power (of the magnet). After approximately 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are highly resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic field,
  • In other words, thanks to the shiny nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an visually attractive appearance,
  • They exhibit extremely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • By using an appropriate combination of materials, they can achieve significant thermal resistance, allowing them to operate at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming or adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in a wide range of shapes and sizes, which amplifies their universality in usage.
  • Significant importance in modern technologies – find application in computer drives, electric motors, medical equipment or various technologically advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are prone to breaking as they are fragile when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a steel housing. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and simultaneously increases its overall strength,
  • High temperatures can reduce the strength of neodymium magnets. Typically, after heating above 80°C, most of them experience a permanent reduction in strength (although it is dependent on the form and size). To prevent this, we offer special magnets marked with the symbol [AH], which are highly resistant to high temperatures. They can operate even at temperatures up to 230°C, making them an ideal solution for applications requiring high-temperature operation,
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore, when using them outdoors, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials,
  • The use of a cover or a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited possibilities of manufacturing threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Health risk arising from small pieces of magnets pose a threat, if swallowed, which is particularly important in the aspect of protecting young children. It's also worth noting that tiny parts of these products can hinder the diagnostic process when they are in the body.

Exercise Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Keep neodymium magnets away from GPS and smartphones.

Neodymium magnets are a source of strong magnetic fields that cause interference with magnetometers and compasses used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

You should keep neodymium magnets at a safe distance from the wallet, computer, and TV.

Neodymium magnets produce intense magnetic fields that can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, or other devices. They can also damage devices like video players, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Remember not to place neodymium magnets close to these electronic devices.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Despite the general resilience of magnets, their ability to maintain their magnetic potency can be influenced by factors like the type of material used, the magnet's shape, and the intended purpose for which it is employed.

Neodymium magnets can attract to each other, pinch the skin, and cause significant swellings.

Neodymium magnets will bounce and clash together within a radius of several to around 10 cm from each other.

Magnets made of neodymium are known for their fragility, which can cause them to become damaged.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by significant fragility. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel surface, but they are not as hard as steel. In the event of a collision between two magnets, there may be a scattering of fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is crucial in such a situation.

Maintain neodymium magnets away from children.

Not all neodymium magnets are toys, so do not let children play with them. In such a situation, surgery is necessary to remove them. In the worst case scenario, it can result in death.

Neodymium magnets are over 10 times stronger than ferrite magnets (the ones in speakers), and their power can surprise you.

Please review the information on how to handle neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body, as well as prevent unintentional disruption to the magnets.

The magnet coating contains nickel, so be cautious if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

People with pacemakers are advised to avoid neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets produce strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a heart pacemaker. Even if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the entire device.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Please see the article - What danger lies in neodymium magnets? You will learn how to handle them properly.
