Neodymium disc magnets present a range of advantages in relation to other magnet shapes, which make them the best choice for numerous projects:
Contact Surface: Thanks to their flat shape, disc magnets guarantee a significant contact surface with adjoining parts, which is beneficial in applications needing a stronger magnetic connection.
Applications in Technology: These magnets are often utilized in many devices, like sensors, stepper motors, or speakers, where a flat shape is important for their operation.
Mounting: This form's flat shape makes mounting, particularly when you need to adhere the magnet to a surface.
Design Flexibility: The flat shape of the magnets allows designers with greater flexibility in arranging them in constructions, which can be more difficult with magnets of other shapes.
Stability: In certain applications, the flat base of a disc magnet may offer better stability, reducing the risk of sliding or rotating. Nevertheless, one should bear in mind that the optimal shape of a magnet is dependent on the particular use and requirements. In some cases, other shapes, such as cylindrical or spherical, might be a better choice.

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their strength (of the magnet). After about 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They protect against demagnetization caused by external magnetic field extremely well,
  • In other words, thanks to the shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element acquires an aesthetic appearance,
  • They possess very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by hugely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming or adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in many variants of shapes or sizes, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Key role in modern technologies – find application in HDD drives, electric motors, medical equipment or very highly developed apparatuses.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a steel housing. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and at the same time increases its overall strength,
  • They lose power at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the form and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • Due to their susceptibility to corrosion in a humid environment, we suggest using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials when using them outdoors,
  • The use of a cover or a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited possibilities of manufacturing threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Potential hazard arising from small pieces of magnets are risky, when accidentally ingested, which is particularly important in the context of child safety. Furthermore, small elements of these magnets have the potential to be problematic in medical diagnosis after entering the body.

Be Cautious with Neodymium Magnets

If you have a nickel allergy, avoid contact with neodymium magnets.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets are primarily characterized by their significant internal force. They attract to each other, and any object that comes in their way will be affected.

Magnets attract each other within a distance of several to about 10 cm from each other. Don't put your fingers in the path of magnet attraction, as a major injury may occur. Depending on how massive the neodymium magnets are, they can lead to a cut or a fracture.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

Keep neodymium magnets away from the wallet, computer, and TV.

The strong magnetic field generated by neodymium magnets can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, etc. devices. They can also destroy devices like video players, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Remember not to place neodymium magnets close to these electronic devices.

Neodymium magnetic are especially delicate, which leads to damage.

Magnets made of neodymium are fragile as well as will crack if allowed to collide with each other, even from a distance of a few centimeters. Despite being made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel plating, they are not as hard as steel. In the case of a collision between two magnets, there can be a scattering of small sharp metal fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is essential.

Do not give neodymium magnets to youngest children.

Not all neodymium magnets are toys, so do not let children play with them. In such a situation, surgery is necessary to remove them. In the worst case scenario, it can result in death.

Neodymium magnets should not be near people with pacemakers.

In the case of neodymium magnets, there is a strong magnetic field. As a result, it interferes with the operation of a heart pacemaker. Even if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the entire device.

Keep neodymium magnets as far away as possible from GPS and smartphones.

Magnetic fields interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation for air and sea transport, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

Although magnets are generally resilient, their ability to retain their magnetic strength can be influenced by factors like the type of material used, the magnet's shape, and the intended purpose for which it is employed.

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets ever created, and their strength can surprise you.

On our website, you can find information on how to use neodymium magnets. This will help you avoid injuries and prevent damage to the magnets.
