Neodymium magnets MP 60x20x5 / N38 in a ring-shaped form are commonly used in various industries due to their specific properties. Thanks to a powerful magnetic field of 5.70 kg, which can be described as lifting capacity, they are extremely useful in applications that require strong magnetism in a compact space. Usage of MP 60x20x5 / N38 magnets include electric motors, generating systems, sound devices, and numerous other devices that use magnets for generating motion or storing energy. Despite their powerful strength, they have a relatively low weight of 94.25 grams, which makes them more convenient to use compared to bulkier alternatives.

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their power (of the magnet). After approximately 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are exceptionally resistant to demagnetization caused by an external magnetic field,
  • By applying a shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They exhibit very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • By using an appropriate combination of materials, they can achieve significant thermal resistance, allowing them to operate at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • The ability for precise shaping or customization to specific needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in a wide range of shapes and sizes, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Significant importance in advanced technologically fields – are utilized in HDD drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical equipment or various technologically advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and at the same time increases its overall strength,
  • They lose power at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the form and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • They rust in a humid environment - during outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • The use of a cover or a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited possibilities of manufacturing threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Possible danger to health from tiny fragments of magnets can be dangerous, when accidentally ingested, which becomes significant in the context of children's health. Furthermore, small elements of these devices can complicate diagnosis when they are in the body.

Exercise Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Keep neodymium magnets away from the wallet, computer, and TV.

Strong magnetic fields emitted by neodymium magnets can destroy magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other devices. In addition, they can damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. You should especially avoid placing neodymium magnets near electronic devices.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

Although magnets are generally resilient, their ability to maintain their magnetic potency can be influenced by factors like the type of material used, the magnet's shape, and the intended purpose for which it is employed.

Magnets will attract to each other, so remember not to allow them to pinch together without control or place your fingers in their path.

If joining of neodymium magnets is not under control, then they may crumble and also crack. Remember not to approach them to each other or hold them firmly in hands at a distance less than 10 cm.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are highly flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Magnets made of neodymium are delicate and can easily break and get damaged.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by significant fragility. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel, but they are not as durable as steel. In the event of a collision between two magnets, there may be a scattering of fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is crucial in such a situation.

Magnets are not toys, children should not play with them.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. You cannot allow them to become toys for children. Small magnets pose a serious choking hazard or can attract to each other in the intestines. In such cases, the only solution is to undergo surgery to remove the magnets, and otherwise, it can even lead to death.

Neodymium magnets are over 10 times more powerful than ferrite magnets (the ones in speakers), and their power can surprise you.

Read the information on our website on how to properly utilize neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body and unintentional damage to the magnets.

If you have a nickel allergy, avoid contact with neodymium magnets.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Avoid bringing neodymium magnets close to a phone or GPS.

Intense magnetic fields generated by neodymium magnets interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium magnets should not be near people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

Please see the article - What danger lies in neodymium magnets? You will learn how to handle them properly.
