Neodymium magnets MP 40x20x5 / N38 in a ring-shaped form are regularly used in various industries due to their unique properties. Thanks to a powerful magnetic field of 5.70 kg, which can be described as force, they are key in applications that require strong magnetism in a relatively small area. Applications of MP 40x20x5 / N38 magnets include electric motors, generators, sound devices, and many other devices that use magnets for generating motion or storing energy. Despite their powerful strength, they have a relatively low weight of 35.34 grams, which makes them more practical compared to bulkier alternatives.

Product suggestions

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their strength (of the magnet). After about 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They protect against demagnetization caused by external magnetic field very well,
  • By applying a shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They have exceptionally high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • By using an appropriate combination of materials, they can achieve high thermal resistance, allowing them to operate at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • Due to the option of accurate forming and adaptation to individual needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in a wide range of shapes and sizes, which amplifies their universality in usage.
  • Key role in advanced technologically fields – are used in HDD drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical equipment and very highly developed apparatuses.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and simultaneously increases its overall strength,
  • High temperatures can reduce the power of neodymium magnets. Typically, after heating above 80°C, most of them experience a permanent loss in strength (although it is dependent on the form and size). To prevent this, we offer special magnets marked with the symbol [AH], which are highly resistant to high temperatures. They can operate even at temperatures up to 230°C, making them an ideal solution for applications requiring high-temperature operation,
  • They rust in a humid environment - during outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • The use of a cover or a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited possibilities of manufacturing threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Potential hazard arising from small pieces of magnets pose a threat, in case of ingestion, which is crucial in the aspect of protecting young children. It's also worth noting that tiny parts of these magnets have the potential to hinder the diagnostic process when they are in the body.

Exercise Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Magnets should not be treated as toys. Therefore, it is not recommended for children to have access to them.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Do not allow children to play with them. Small magnets can pose a serious choking hazard. If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls, causing significant injuries, and even death.

Do not bring neodymium magnets close to GPS and smartphones.

Neodymium magnets are a source of strong magnetic fields that cause interference with magnetometers and compasses used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium magnetic are incredibly fragile, they easily fall apart as well as can become damaged.

In the event of a collision between two neodymium magnets, it can result in them getting chipped. Despite being made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel plating, they are not as hard as steel. In the case of a collision between two magnets, there can be a scattering of small sharp metal fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is essential.

Neodymium magnets are not recommended for people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets produce strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a heart pacemaker. However, if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the device when it is in a magnetic field.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are highly flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

Neodymium magnets are the strongest magnets ever created, and their power can shock you.

Familiarize yourself with our information to correctly handle these magnets and avoid significant injuries to your body and prevent damage to the magnets.

The magnet is coated with nickel. Therefore, exercise caution if you have an allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

Although magnets have demonstrated their effectiveness up to 80°C or 175°F, the temperature can vary depending on the type, shape, and intended use of the specific magnet.

It is crucial not to allow the magnets to pinch together uncontrollably or place your fingers in their path as they attract to each other.

Magnets will jump and touch together within a distance of several to almost 10 cm from each other.

Keep neodymium magnets away from the wallet, computer, and TV.

Neodymium magnets generate intense magnetic fields that can damage magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, etc. devices. They can also destroy devices like video players, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Remember not to place neodymium magnets close to these electronic devices.

To raise awareness of why neodymium magnets are so dangerous, see the article titled How very dangerous are strong neodymium magnets?.
