Neodymium magnets MP 40x20x5 / N38 in a ring form are commonly used in various industries due to their unique properties. Thanks to a powerful magnetic field of 5.70 kg, which can be described as lifting capacity, they are key in applications that require strong magnetism in a relatively small area. Usage of MP 40x20x5 / N38 magnets include electrical mechanisms, generators, sound devices, and several other devices that use magnets for generating motion or storing energy. Despite their significant strength, they have a comparatively low weight of 35.34 grams, which makes them more convenient to use compared to heavier alternatives.

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their strength (of the magnet). After about 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are exceptionally resistant to demagnetization caused by an external magnetic field,
  • By applying a shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They exhibit extremely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by hugely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the form) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • The ability for precise shaping and customization to specific needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in various forms and dimensions, which amplifies their universality in usage.
  • Significant importance in modern technologies – are used in computer drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical devices and other advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a metal holder. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts, and at the same time increases its overall strength,
  • Magnets lose their strength due to exposure to high temperatures. In most cases, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, these magnets experience permanent loss in strength (although it is worth noting that this is dependent on the form and size of the magnet). To avoid this problem, we offer special magnets marked with the [AH] symbol, which exhibit high temperature resistance. They can operate even at temperatures as high as 230°C or more,
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore, when using them outdoors, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Possible danger to health from tiny fragments of magnets can be dangerous, in case of ingestion, which is particularly important in the context of children's health. Furthermore, small elements of these products can be problematic in medical diagnosis when they are in the body.

Safety Guidelines with Neodymium Magnets

Comparing neodymium magnets to ferrite magnets (found in speakers), they are 10 times stronger, and their power can surprise you.

On our website, you can find information on how to use neodymium magnets. This will help you avoid injuries and prevent damage to the magnets.

Make sure not to bring neodymium magnets close to the TV, wallet, and computer HDD.

Neodymium magnets generate strong magnetic fields that can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, or other devices. They can also destroy videos, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Do not forget to keep neodymium magnets at a safe distance from these electronic devices.

Keep neodymium magnets away from people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

Under no circumstances should neodymium magnets be brought close to GPS and smartphones.

Strong fields generated by neodymium magnets interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

In certain circumstances, Neodymium magnets may experience demagnetization when subjected to high temperatures.

Do not give neodymium magnets to children.

Remember that neodymium magnets are not toys. Be cautious and make sure no child plays with them. In the case of swallowing multiple magnets simultaneously, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls. In the worst case scenario, this can lead to death.

Neodymium magnets are primarily characterized by their significant internal force. They attract to each other, and any object that comes in their way will be affected.

Magnets will attract each other within a distance of several to about 10 cm from each other. Remember not to put fingers between magnets or in their path when they attract. Magnets, depending on their size, are able even cut off a finger or alternatively there can be a significant pressure or even a fracture.

Neodymium magnets are known for being fragile, which can cause them to become damaged.

In the event of a collision between two neodymium magnets, it can result in them getting chipped. They are coated with a shiny nickel plating similar to steel, but they are not as hard. In the case of a collision between two magnets, there can be a scattering of small sharp metal fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is essential.

The magnet is coated with nickel - be careful if you have an allergy.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

To raise awareness of why neodymium magnets are so dangerous, see the article titled How very dangerous are very powerful neodymium magnets?.
