Neodymium magnets MP 40x10.4/5.5x5 / N38 in a ring-shaped form are regularly used in various industries due to their specific properties. Thanks to a powerful magnetic field of 2.27 kg, which can be described as force, they are key in applications that require high magnetic power in a relatively small area. Usage of MP 40x10.4/5.5x5 / N38 magnets include electrical mechanisms, generating systems, audio systems, and several other devices that use magnets for producing motion or storing energy. Despite their powerful strength, they have a comparatively low weight of 45.26 grams, which makes them more practical compared to bulkier alternatives.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose power over time - after 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are highly resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic sources,
  • In other words, thanks to the shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element acquires an aesthetic appearance,
  • They exhibit very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • The ability for precise shaping and customization to specific needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in many variants of shapes and sizes, which amplifies their universality in usage.
  • Significant importance in the industry of new technologies – are utilized in hard drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical devices and very modern machines.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are prone to breaking as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a metal holder. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • They lose power at high temperatures. Most neodymium magnets experience permanent loss of strength when heated above 80°C (depending on the form and height). However, we also offer special magnets with high temperature resistance, up to 230°C,
  • They rust in a humid environment - during outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Possible danger to health from tiny fragments of magnets are risky, when accidentally ingested, which is particularly important in the context of children's health. Additionally, small elements of these devices can be problematic in medical diagnosis when they are in the body.

Exercise Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Under no circumstances should neodymium magnets be brought close to GPS and smartphones.

Neodymium magnets generate intense magnetic fields that interfere with magnetometers and compasses used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

It is crucial not to allow the magnets to pinch together uncontrollably or place your fingers in their path as they attract to each other.

Magnets will crack or crumble with careless connecting to each other. You can't approach them to each other. At a distance less than 10 cm you should hold them very firmly.

Magnets made of neodymium are incredibly delicate, they easily fall apart as well as can become damaged.

Magnets made of neodymium are delicate and will crack if allowed to collide with each other, even from a distance of a few centimeters. Despite being made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel plating, they are not as hard as steel. At the moment of collision between the magnets, tiny sharp metal fragments can be propelled in various directions at high speed. Eye protection is recommended.

Do not place neodymium magnets near a computer HDD, TV, and wallet.

Magnetic fields generated by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other similar devices. They can also damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. Avoid placing neodymium magnets in close proximity to electronic devices.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are highly flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

If you have a nickel allergy, avoid contact with neodymium magnets.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Keep neodymium magnets away from people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets produce strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a heart pacemaker. Even if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the entire device.

Keep neodymium magnets far from youngest children.

Not all neodymium magnets are toys, so do not let children play with them. In such a situation, surgery is necessary to remove them. In the worst case scenario, it can result in death.

Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures.

While Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures, it's important to note that the extent of this effect can vary based on factors such as the magnet's material, shape, and intended application.

Neodymium magnets are over 10 times stronger than ferrite magnets (the ones in speakers), and their strength can shock you.

Read the information on our website on how to properly utilize neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body and unintentional damage to the magnets.
