Due to unique properties, MP 40x10.4/5.5x5 / N38 in a ring form finds extensive use in various industries. Thanks to a powerful magnetic field of 2.27 kg, which can be described as force, they are extremely useful in applications that require strong magnetism in a relatively small area. Applications of MP 40x10.4/5.5x5 / N38 magnets include electrical mechanisms, generating systems, sound devices, and several other devices that use magnets for generating motion or energy storage. Despite their powerful strength, they have a comparatively low weight of 45.26 grams, which makes them more convenient to use compared to heavier alternatives.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose power over time - after approximately 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They protect against demagnetization caused by external magnetic field very well,
  • In other words, thanks to the glossy nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an visually attractive appearance,
  • They exhibit very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • By using an appropriate combination of materials, they can achieve high thermal resistance, allowing them to operate at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • The ability for precise shaping and customization to specific needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in various forms and dimensions, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Key role in modern technologies – find application in computer drives, electric motors, medical apparatus and other modern machines.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are fragile when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and at the same time increases its overall strength,
  • High temperatures can reduce the strength of neodymium magnets. Typically, after heating above 80°C, most of them experience a permanent loss in strength (although it is dependent on the shape and size). To prevent this, we offer special magnets marked with the symbol [AH], which are highly resistant to high temperatures. They can operate even at temperatures up to 230°C, making them an ideal solution for applications requiring high-temperature operation,
  • Due to their susceptibility to corrosion in a humid environment, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials when using them outdoors,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Potential hazard associated with microscopic parts of magnets are risky, in case of ingestion, which is crucial in the context of child safety. It's also worth noting that tiny parts of these devices are able to complicate diagnosis when they are in the body.

Precautions

Magnets are not toys, children should not play with them.

Remember that neodymium magnets are not toys. Do not allow children to play with them. Small magnets can pose a serious choking hazard. If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls, causing significant injuries, and even death.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Neodymium magnets are primarily characterized by their significant internal force. They attract to each other, and any object that comes in their way will be affected.

If joining of neodymium magnets is not under control, then they may crumble and also crack. Remember not to approach them to each other or have them firmly in hands at a distance less than 10 cm.

Do not place neodymium magnets near a computer HDD, TV, and wallet.

Neodymium magnets generate strong magnetic fields that can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, or other devices. They can also destroy videos, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Do not forget to keep neodymium magnets at a safe distance from these electronic devices.

The magnet coating contains nickel, so be cautious if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets are over 10 times stronger than ferrite magnets (the ones in speakers), and their strength can shock you.

Make sure to review all the information we have provided. This will help you avoid harm to your body and damage to the magnets.

Under no circumstances should neodymium magnets be brought close to GPS and smartphones.

Magnetic fields interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation for air and sea transport, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium magnets are not recommended for people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate strong magnetic fields. As a result, they interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

Neodymium magnetic are characterized by being fragile, which can cause them to become damaged.

Neodymium magnets are fragile as well as will break if allowed to collide with each other, even from a distance of a few centimeters. They are coated with a shiny nickel plating similar to steel, but they are not as hard. At the moment of connection between the magnets, small sharp metal pieces can be propelled in various directions at high speed. Eye protection is recommended.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Although magnets have shown to retain their effectiveness up to 80°C or 175°F, this temperature may vary depending on the type of material, shape, and intended use of the magnet.

So that know how powerful neodymium magnets are and why they are so dangerous, read the article - Dangerous strong neodymium magnets.
