Due to specific properties, MP 40x10.4/5.5x5 / N38 in a ring form finds extensive use in various industries. Thanks to a powerful magnetic field of 2.27 kg, which can be described as force, they are very helpful in applications that require high magnetic power in a relatively small area. Usage of MP 40x10.4/5.5x5 / N38 magnets include electrical mechanisms, generators, audio systems, and numerous other devices that use magnets for producing motion or storing energy. Despite their powerful strength, they have a relatively low weight of 45.26 grams, which makes them more convenient to use compared to bulkier alternatives.

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose strength over time. After approximately 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are highly resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic sources,
  • Thanks to the shiny finish and nickel, gold, or silver coating, they have an aesthetic appearance,
  • They have exceptionally high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • By using an appropriate combination of materials, they can achieve significant thermal resistance, allowing them to operate at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • The ability for precise shaping and customization to specific needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in various forms and dimensions, which amplifies their universality in usage.
  • Key role in modern technologies – are used in HDD drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical apparatus or very highly developed apparatuses.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are extremely fragile when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a steel housing. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and simultaneously increases its overall strength,
  • Magnets lose their strength due to exposure to high temperatures. In most cases, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, these magnets experience permanent reduction in strength (although it is worth noting that this is dependent on the form and size of the magnet). To avoid this problem, we offer special magnets marked with the [AH] symbol, which exhibit high temperature resistance. They can operate even at temperatures as high as 230°C or more,
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore, when using them outdoors, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Potential hazard associated with microscopic parts of magnets can be dangerous, when accidentally ingested, which is crucial in the aspect of protecting young children. Additionally, miniscule components of these products can hinder the diagnostic process in case of swallowing.

Exercise Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

Never bring neodymium magnets close to a phone and GPS.

Magnetic fields can interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in aviation and maritime navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices. There are neodymium magnets in every smartphone, for example, in the microphone and speakers.

Maintain neodymium magnets away from children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Do not allow children to play with them. In the case of swallowing multiple magnets simultaneously, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls. In the worst case scenario, this can lead to death.

Neodymium magnets can attract to each other, pinch the skin, and cause significant injuries.

Magnets attract each other within a distance of several to around 10 cm from each other. Don't put your fingers in the path of magnet attraction, because a serious injury may occur. Depending on how large the neodymium magnets are, they can lead to a cut or a fracture.

Keep neodymium magnets away from people with pacemakers.

In the case of neodymium magnets, there is a strong magnetic field. As a result, it interferes with the operation of a heart pacemaker. Even if the magnetic field does not affect the device, it can damage its components or deactivate the entire device.

Magnets made of neodymium are characterized by their fragility, which can cause them to shatter.

Neodymium magnetic are highly delicate, and by joining them in an uncontrolled manner, they will break. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel surface, but they are not as hard as steel. At the moment of connection between the magnets, sharp metal fragments can be dispersed in different directions.

The magnet coating contains nickel, so be cautious if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Do not place neodymium magnets near a computer HDD, TV, and wallet.

Strong fields generated by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other similar devices. They can also damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. You should especially avoid placing neodymium magnets near electronic devices.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Although magnets have demonstrated their effectiveness up to 80°C or 175°F, the temperature can vary depending on the type, shape, and intended use of the specific magnet.

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets ever created, and their strength can surprise you.

To handle magnets properly, it is best to familiarize yourself with our information beforehand. This will help you avoid significant harm to your body and the magnets themselves.
