Neodymium magnets MP 20x8x5 / N38 in a ring-shaped form are regularly used in various industries due to their specific properties. Thanks to a powerful magnetic field of 2.28 kg, which can be described as strength, they are very helpful in applications that require strong magnetism in a compact space. Usage of MP 20x8x5 / N38 magnets include electric motors, generators, audio systems, and several other devices that use magnets for producing motion or storing energy. Despite their powerful strength, they have a comparatively low weight of 9.90 grams, which makes them more practical compared to bulkier alternatives.

Product suggestions

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

Apart from immense strength, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their strength (of the magnet). After approximately 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are highly resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic sources,
  • In other words, thanks to the glossy nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an aesthetic appearance,
  • They have exceptionally high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Thanks to their high temperature resistance, they can operate (depending on the form) even at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • The ability for precise shaping and customization to specific needs – neodymium magnets can be produced in various forms and dimensions, which amplifies their universality in usage.
  • Wide application in advanced technologically fields – are used in hard drives, electric motors, medical equipment or various technologically advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They are prone to breaking as they are fragile when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a metal holder. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and also increases its overall strength,
  • Magnets lose their power due to exposure to high temperatures. In most cases, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, these magnets experience permanent loss in strength (although it is worth noting that this is dependent on the form and size of the magnet). To avoid this problem, we offer special magnets marked with the [AH] symbol, which exhibit high temperature resistance. They can operate even at temperatures as high as 230°C or more,
  • They rust in a humid environment. For outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Possible danger to health from tiny fragments of magnets can be dangerous, when accidentally ingested, which is crucial in the aspect of protecting young children. Additionally, miniscule components of these devices can hinder the diagnostic process after entering the body.

Be Cautious with Neodymium Magnets

Avoid bringing neodymium magnets close to a phone or GPS.

Intense magnetic fields generated by neodymium magnets interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

Keep neodymium magnets away from the wallet, computer, and TV.

Neodymium magnets produce intense magnetic fields that can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, or other devices. They can also destroy devices like video players, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Do not forget to keep neodymium magnets away from these electronic devices.

The magnet coating is made of nickel, so be cautious if you have an allergy.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Whilst Neodymium magnets can demagnetize at high temperatures, it's important to note that the extent of this effect can vary based on factors such as the magnet's material, shape, and intended application.

Comparing neodymium magnets to ferrite magnets (found in speakers), they are 10 times more powerful, and their strength can surprise you.

Read the information on our website on how to properly utilize neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body and unintentional disruption to the magnets.

Do not give neodymium magnets to children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. You cannot allow them to become toys for children. In the case of small magnets, they can be swallowed and cause choking. In such cases, the only solution is to undergo surgery to remove the magnets, and otherwise, it can even lead to death.

Neodymium magnets can attract to each other, pinch the skin, and cause significant swellings.

Neodymium magnets jump and touch each other mutually within a radius of several to around 10 cm from each other.

Neodymium magnets are not recommended for people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

Neodymium magnetic are highly susceptible to damage, leading to their cracking.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by considerable fragility. Magnets made of neodymium are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel, but they are not as durable as steel. At the moment of collision between the magnets, small metal fragments can be dispersed in different directions.

In order for you to know how powerful neodymium magnets are and why they are so dangerous, read the article - Dangerous very powerful neodymium magnets.
