Neodymium magnets MP 20x8/4x3 / N38 in a ring form are regularly used in various industries due to their unique properties. Thanks to a powerful magnetic field of 1.03 kg, which can be described as lifting capacity, they are very helpful in applications that require high magnetic power in a compact space. Applications of MP 20x8/4x3 / N38 magnets include electrical mechanisms, generators, sound devices, and several other devices that use magnets for producing motion or storing energy. Despite their powerful strength, they have a comparatively low weight of 6.43 grams, which makes them more practical compared to bulkier alternatives.

Shopping tips

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose strength over time. After about 10 years, their strength decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They protect against demagnetization caused by external magnetic field extremely well,
  • In other words, thanks to the glossy nickel, gold, or silver finish, the element gains an visually attractive appearance,
  • They possess very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Thanks to their high temperature resistance, they can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • Thanks to the flexibility in shaping or the ability to adapt to specific requirements – neodymium magnets can be produced in many variants of shapes or sizes, which expands the range of their possible uses.
  • Wide application in advanced technologically fields – are utilized in hard drives, electric motors, medical devices or very advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break when subjected to a powerful impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a steel housing. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and at the same time increases its overall strength,
  • Magnets lose their strength due to exposure to high temperatures. In most cases, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, these magnets experience permanent reduction in strength (although it is worth noting that this is dependent on the shape and size of the magnet). To avoid this problem, we offer special magnets marked with the [AH] symbol, which exhibit high temperature resistance. They can operate even at temperatures as high as 230°C or more,
  • They rust in a humid environment. For outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • The use of a cover or a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited possibilities of manufacturing threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Possible danger associated with microscopic parts of magnets can be dangerous, if swallowed, which is particularly important in the aspect of protecting young children. It's also worth noting that small elements of these devices are able to complicate diagnosis in case of swallowing.

Handle Neodymium Magnets Carefully

The magnet coating is made of nickel, so be cautious if you have an allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

It is essential to keep neodymium magnets away from children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. You cannot allow them to become toys for children. Small magnets pose a serious choking hazard or can attract to each other in the intestines. In such cases, the only solution is to undergo surgery to remove the magnets, and otherwise, it can even lead to death.

Neodymium magnets are highly susceptible to damage, leading to breaking.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by significant fragility. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel surface, but they are not as hard as steel. At the moment of connection between the magnets, sharp metal fragments can be dispersed in different directions.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Do not attempt to drill into neodymium magnets. Mechanical processing is also not recommended. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Despite the fact that magnets have been observed to maintain their efficacy up to temperatures of 80°C or 175°F, it's essential to consider that this threshold may fluctuate depending on the magnet's type, configuration, and intended usage.

It is crucial not to allow the magnets to pinch together uncontrollably or place your fingers in their path as they attract to each other.

Magnets will attract each other within a distance of several to about 10 cm from each other. Don't put your fingers in the path of magnet attraction, as a significant injury may occur. Magnets, depending on their size, can even cut off a finger or alternatively there can be a severe pressure or even a fracture.

You should maintain neodymium magnets at a safe distance from the wallet, computer, and TV.

Neodymium magnets produce strong magnetic fields that can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, or other devices. They can also destroy videos, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Do not forget to keep neodymium magnets away from these electronic devices.

Comparing neodymium magnets to ferrite magnets (found in speakers), they are 10 times more powerful, and their power can surprise you.

Read the information on our website on how to properly utilize neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body and unintentional damage to the magnets.

People with pacemakers are advised to avoid neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This happens because such devices have a function to deactivate them in a magnetic field.

Keep neodymium magnets away from GPS and smartphones.

Magnetic fields generated by neodymium magnets interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

So that know how powerful neodymium magnets are and why they are so dangerous, see the article - Dangerous very strong neodymium magnets.
