Neodymium magnets MP 14x8/4x3 / N38 in a ring-shaped form are regularly used in various industries due to their unique properties. Thanks to a powerful magnetic field of 1.03 kg, which can be described as strength, they are key in applications that require strong magnetism in a compact space. Applications of MP 14x8/4x3 / N38 magnets include electrical mechanisms, generating systems, sound devices, and several other devices that use magnets for producing motion or storing energy. Despite their significant strength, they have a relatively low weight of 2.83 grams, which makes them more convenient to use compared to bulkier alternatives.

Shopping tips

Advantages as well as disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense power, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose strength over time. After approximately 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are extremely resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic field,
  • In other words, thanks to the shiny coating of nickel, gold, or silver, the element acquires an aesthetic appearance,
  • They have very high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • Magnetic neodymium magnets are characterized by hugely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet and can operate (depending on the shape) even at temperatures of 230°C or higher...
  • Thanks to the flexibility in shaping and the ability to adapt to specific requirements – neodymium magnets can be produced in various forms and dimensions, which enhances their versatility in applications.
  • Key role in advanced technologically fields – find application in hard drives, electric motors, medical equipment or various technologically advanced devices.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, we recommend using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and at the same time increases its overall strength,
  • High temperatures can reduce the power of neodymium magnets. Typically, after heating above 80°C, most of them experience a permanent loss in strength (although it is dependent on the shape and size). To prevent this, we offer special magnets marked with the symbol [AH], which are highly resistant to high temperatures. They can operate even at temperatures up to 230°C, making them an ideal solution for applications requiring high-temperature operation,
  • They rust in a humid environment - during outdoor use, we recommend using waterproof magnets, such as those made of rubber or plastic,
  • The use of a cover - a magnetic holder is recommended due to the limited production capabilities of creating threads or complex shapes in the magnet
  • Possible danger to health from tiny fragments of magnets pose a threat, when accidentally ingested, which becomes significant in the aspect of protecting young children. Furthermore, small elements of these products have the potential to hinder the diagnostic process when they are in the body.

Exercise Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Neodymium magnets are highly fragile, they easily break and can become damaged.

Neodymium magnets are characterized by considerable fragility. Neodymium magnetic are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel, but they are not as durable as steel. In the event of a collision between two magnets, there may be a scattering of fragments in different directions. Protecting your eyes is crucial in such a situation.

It is essential to keep neodymium magnets away from children.

Not all neodymium magnets are toys, so do not let children play with them. In such a situation, surgery is necessary to remove them. In the worst case scenario, it can result in death.

Neodymium magnets are not recommended for people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

Comparing neodymium magnets to ferrite magnets (found in speakers), they are 10 times more powerful, and their strength can shock you.

Make sure to review all the information we have provided. This will help you avoid harm to your body and damage to the magnets.

The magnet is coated with nickel - be careful if you have an allergy.

Studies clearly indicate a small percentage of people who suffer from metal allergies such as nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, you can try wearing gloves or simply avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. Once crushed into fine powder or dust, this material becomes highly flammable.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Despite the fact that magnets have been observed to maintain their efficacy up to temperatures of 80°C or 175°F, it's essential to consider that this threshold may fluctuate depending on the magnet's type, configuration, and intended usage.

Make sure not to bring neodymium magnets close to the TV, wallet, and computer HDD.

The strong magnetic field generated by neodymium magnets can destroy magnetic media such as floppy disks, video tapes, HDDs, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, or other devices. They can also destroy videos, televisions, CRT computer monitors. Do not forget to keep neodymium magnets away from these electronic devices.

Keep neodymium magnets as far away as possible from GPS and smartphones.

Magnetic fields can interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in aviation and maritime navigation, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices. There are neodymium magnets in every smartphone, for example, in the microphone and speakers.

Magnets will attract to each other, so remember not to allow them to pinch together without control or place your fingers in their path.

If joining of neodymium magnets is not controlled, then they may crumble and crack. Remember not to move them to each other or hold them firmly in hands at a distance less than 10 cm.

In order for you to know how powerful neodymium magnets are and why they are so dangerous, read the article - Dangerous very powerful neodymium magnets.
