Neodymium disc magnets present a range of advantages compared to other magnet shapes, which make an excellent solution for numerous projects:
Contact Surface: Thanks to their flat shape, disc magnets guarantee a larger contact surface with adjoining parts, which can be beneficial in applications requiring a stronger magnetic connection.
Applications in Technology: The magnets are often utilized in various devices, like sensors, stepper motors, or speakers, where a thin and wide shape is crucial for their operation.
Mounting: The flat form's flat shape facilitates mounting, particularly when there's a need to adhere the magnet to a surface.
Design Flexibility: The disc shape of the magnets allows designers with greater flexibility in arranging them in devices, which can be more difficult with magnets of more complex shapes.
Stability: In some applications, the flat base of a disc magnet may offer better stability, minimizing the risk of shifting or rotating. However, it's important to remember that the optimal shape of a magnet is dependent on the specific project and requirements. In some cases, other shapes, like cylindrical or spherical, might be more suitable.

Shopping tips

Advantages and disadvantages of neodymium magnets NdFeB.

In addition to immense strength, neodymium magnets have the following advantages:

  • They do not lose their power (of the magnet). After approximately 10 years, their power decreases by only ~1% (theoretically),
  • They are extremely resistant to demagnetization by external magnetic field,
  • Thanks to the shiny finish and nickel, gold, or silver coating, they have an aesthetic appearance,
  • They exhibit extremely high magnetic induction on the surface of the magnet,
  • By using an appropriate combination of materials, they can achieve high thermal resistance, allowing them to operate at temperatures up to 230°C and above...
  • Thanks to the flexibility in shaping and the ability to adapt to specific requirements – neodymium magnets can be produced in various forms and dimensions, which expands the range of their possible uses.
  • Key role in modern technologies – are used in computer drives, electric drive mechanisms, medical devices or other modern machines.

Disadvantages of neodymium magnets:

  • They can break as they are fragile when subjected to a strong impact. If the magnets are exposed to impacts, it is suggested using magnets in a protective case. The steel housing in the form of a holder protects the magnet from impacts and simultaneously increases its overall strength,
  • Magnets lose their power due to exposure to high temperatures. In most cases, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, these magnets experience permanent loss in strength (although it is worth noting that this is dependent on the shape and size of the magnet). To avoid this problem, we offer special magnets marked with the [AH] symbol, which exhibit high temperature resistance. They can operate even at temperatures as high as 230°C or more,
  • Magnets exposed to a humid environment can corrode. Therefore, when using them outdoors, we recommend using waterproof magnets made of rubber, plastic, or other moisture-resistant materials,
  • Limited ability to create threads or complex shapes in the magnet - the use of a housing is recommended - magnetic holder
  • Potential hazard associated with microscopic parts of magnets pose a threat, in case of ingestion, which is crucial in the aspect of protecting young children. Additionally, small elements of these magnets have the potential to be problematic in medical diagnosis in case of swallowing.

We Recommend Caution with Neodymium Magnets

Dust and powder from neodymium magnets are flammable.

Avoid drilling or mechanical processing of neodymium magnets. If the magnet is crushed into fine powder or dust, it becomes highly flammable.

Keep neodymium magnets away from TV, wallet, and computer HDD.

Magnetic fields generated by neodymium magnets can damage magnetic storage media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, or other similar devices. They can also damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors, and CRT displays. You should especially avoid placing neodymium magnets near electronic devices.

The magnet is coated with nickel. Therefore, exercise caution if you have an allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people have allergies to certain metals, including nickel. An allergic reaction often manifests as skin redness and rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid direct contact with nickel-plated neodymium magnets.

Keep neodymium magnets away from GPS and smartphones.

Magnetic fields interfere with compasses and magnetometers used in navigation for air and sea transport, as well as internal compasses of smartphones and GPS devices.

Neodymium magnets are extremely fragile, leading to their cracking.

Magnets made of neodymium are extremely delicate, and by joining them in an uncontrolled manner, they will break. Neodymium magnets are made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel surface, but they are not as hard as steel. At the moment of connection between the magnets, sharp metal fragments can be dispersed in different directions.

Neodymium magnets are the strongest magnets ever invented. Their strength can shock you.

Please review the information on how to handle neodymium magnets and avoid significant harm to your body, as well as prevent unintentional damage to the magnets.

Neodymium magnets should not be in the vicinity youngest children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Be cautious and make sure no child plays with them. In the case of swallowing multiple magnets simultaneously, they can attract to each other through the intestinal walls. In the worst case scenario, this can lead to death.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

Under specific conditions, Neodymium magnets may experience demagnetization when subjected to high temperatures.

Neodymium magnets are not recommended for people with pacemakers.

Neodymium magnets generate very strong magnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of a pacemaker. This is because many of these devices are equipped with a function that deactivates the device in a magnetic field.

Neodymium magnets are primarily characterized by their significant internal force. They attract to each other, and any object that comes in their way will be affected.

If the joining of neodymium magnets is not controlled, at that time they may crumble and crack. Remember not to move them to each other or have them firmly in hands at a distance less than 10 cm.
